When I was an RA in college I had to enforce drinking and drug-related policies to underclassmen. However, the students in my hall faced peer pressure to drink or adopt other substance abuse practices. They thought that since I was their RA and friend, I would let them slide, but I made my role clear by writing them up and passing along incident reports to the administration. Those situations strained my friendships with them at times, but the safety of the students is of utmost importance, and it's not worth the risk to place friendship over safety.
