I would ask the upset person if they would like to talk or discuss any problems or concerns that they might have today. I would listen to the whole story before I try to support their needs. Then try to understand there feelings about the situation on what's going on at that moment of their actions. I would not wait to long to solve the problem/issue, that's when things get out of control if you take too long. Listen to the problem, attack the root cause and solve the problem with little or no disruption to the process or the people.
