    Software Engineer Interview

Wrote a written test at the university, got a call for on-site interview. Interview was fairly straightforward. All the questions were from my resume. There were a few behavioral questions, nothing out of the ordinary. There was a separate HR round, about 10% cleared the first written round, about 50% cleared the interview

    Interview Questions
    • Nothing unexpected. But the employer was pretty straightforward about how long he expected me to work here before seeking better opportunities (about 2 years, I left in 1 for higher education and most of the people who joined with me left in about a year or two as well)   Answer Question

No negotiation, fixed salary for all college recruits

It varies depending on which software team. Some make you take an extra test while mine was simply questions about my resume. A week or two later they gave me an offer. They were really friendly. Easy interview.

I advice you to be prepared for lost of questions from STL- Know how to work with linked list and string from STL. More function you know from STL, writing a program, and developing an algorithm would be easier! For example: Inserting a node, removing a node, copy str, length of string, swap string,...! It would be great if you know about Rail Signaling basics, and what's the difference between automatic and the traditional ones! Review the very basic formulas about Feedback in linear control systems (stable systems, and unstable systems). Their system is based on communication protocols, you shouldn't be surprised if they ask you about WiFi and networking protocols.

    Graduate Software Engineer Interview

I applied online. The process took 4 weeksinterviewed at Thales.

    Interview Details

The hiring process consisted of application via the internet. The application specified degree type and course average cut off.

An HR person called me and after a chat I was invited to an assessment centre.

The assessment centre was a day long event with about 15 other applicants. It consisted of several group tasks during which we solved general engineering problems.

We then did a short presentation which led into a behavioural interview with an HR person and an Engineering Manager.

I received a call a week later to come into the office for a second interview. Which was a technical interview with the same Engineering Manager from the first interview, my future team leader, the head of software within the program I was applying for (who my team leader reports to) and a senior software engineer.

A few weeks later I was called and given a job offer.

As a side note if you work for Thales you will need to be able to get and hold a national security clearance issued by the Defence Department. This can be a highly intrusive process which includes thorough background checks. The type of checks that are done depends on the classification level of the clearance,

    Interview Questions
    • What is your understanding of the SDLC?
Whats the hardest technical issue you have resolved and how did you resolve it?
What technical skills do you have?
What units did you enjoy most at university and why?
      Etc.
