I would automate the appointment scheduler by making available a 10-hour time block in 30 minute increments for potential interviewees to select from for a particular date. This system would have a built in "rating" scheme where comments and scores are kept on a candidate. This system would reduce the scheduling time thus freeing up ~5 hours in your day. The follow-up part of the system would be dramatically reduced by automating responses to unqualified candidates who fail to reach a predetermined score and allowing the rest to move up. This gives you the opportunity to use your day to interview as many candidates as possible while your system optimizes scheduling and following up.
