Sales Associate at The Gap

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Crystal Cove, CA – Reviewed Apr 1, 2013

Interview Details – After applying online, I was called back within two days to schedule an interview. The person I spoke with was nice and just asked about availability, salary expectations, etc. At the end of the call, I was asked to come in for an interview. I went in to the store two days later for the interview. Turns out that it was a group interview so there was another person who was also applying for the same position and we would be interviewing together. We had to wait around for about 10 minutes past our interview time. Our interviewer (the girl who had called me) didn't seem very friendly in person and made it seem like a hassle to have to stop what she was doing and interview us. We were finally taken to the back room to interview with her and another assistant manager. Honestly, I've been in a lot of interviews and conducted a lot of interviews, so I can say with certainty that they both weren't very professional (gossiping together, not friendly, horrible at phrasing simple questions), which was a surprise. At the end of the interview, we were told that we would hear back in a few days about their decision. I didn't hear back for three weeks, when they finally called and asked me to come in for a second interview. The first interview had turned me off working for the store though and I had already accepted a job somewhere else that had a much more efficient and positive interview process.

Interview Question – There were the usual interview questions (Why Gap? What experience managing others do you have? Name a time where you had to call out a coworker for not doing their job?...)

The hardest question was: Pretend what you're wearing is from Gap. Sell us on what you are currently wearing.
  Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I didn't like the interview process and the managers weren't as professional or friendly as I would have liked.

Sales Associate at The Gap

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Mar 20, 2013

Interview Details – I had applied in December 2012 but received a phone call March 18 asking if I was still looking for a job. I confirmed and they set me up for an interview the next day. I didn't know it was a group interview till I got there but it was very simple! I was the youngest of the group, being 16 years old. Th questions were pretty straightforward 'Why do you want to work here?' 'What kind of style do we promote?' etc. I acted very enthusiastic and smiled a lot, also making eye contact! I got a call back two hours after that interview asking me to come in the next day to work out a schedule!

Interview Question – It was so straightforward I had no difficulties with any questions!   Answer Question

Retail Management Program at The Gap

No Offer – Reviewed Mar 14, 2013

Interview Details – I applied online and received an initial phone screen. The phone screen was a mix of behavioral and retail questions. After passing the phone screen, I was given instructions for creating a presentation that I had to deliver to an HR contracter over Skype. This was kind of jarring for me because I've never had to do a presentation over Skype before. Usually companies the size of Gap Inc. will fly out candidates for in-person presentations, so this made Gap seem a little cheap.

Anyway, the Skype interview took place about a week after I received the initial instructions. I was given 15 minutes to present, after which the interviewer asked me a series of questions based on my presentation. The interviewer didn't have any criticisms and said that she enjoyed my presentation, but I did not move onto the next round.

Gap at The Gap

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Fresno, CA Apr 2009 – Reviewed Mar 4, 2013

Interview Details – Be honest, give examples of situations you have delt with at other jobs. For example- dealing with difficult people, working to get a order/project done with little time remaining, how you handled long hours, how you are motivated... everything that says who you are going to be when working in the warehouse. Basically everyone doing the hiring is looking for someone that works well in a team, is aware of safety issues, works at a consistent pace and never calls in sick (if you need a day off then pre-plan it ahead of time with your supervisor).calling in sick is for sure a fatal move.
Attendance is basically #1, then safety, work speed and accuracy.
Also.... dont be a complainer, anyone can complain all day.... you want to be the one who presents solutions to the issues the complainers keep whining about (they are never happy anyways)

Interview Question – -When did you fail? If that question comes up.... tell the truth. Failing is a part of learning. Taking that failed knowledge and learning how to do it better is great!
- when did you deal with a difficult person or situation & how did you handle it?
- what are your weaknesses?
