Interviewed Jun 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took 2 weeks)
Interviewed as an external candidate with Gap Inc for merchandising job with several divisions. All HR reps were nice and supportive but very open about company reluctance to hire externally. Company favors promoting ingrown talent which is great if you work there, but very difficult to break in to. Hiring managers very open to interviews and passed to several rounds (right up to Brand/division heads), but offers never extended, as internal candidates were favored. So why bother inteviewing external candidates? No sour grapes, but this may be why Gap Inc and its' brands look stale and are suffering at the point of sale...what is the quote? "the definition of insanity....." .
