Interview Details – Pretty standard interview to determine the type of person you are. They are focused on finding inviting and customer-oriented team players. Questions are are mainly based on how one would conduct themselves given various simple/difficult retail scenarios. If you are a friendly and helpful person you should do well in the interview.
Interview Question – They ask you to give them a time that you've been dealt with a difficult situation and how you overcame it. Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at The Gap.
Interview Details – I applied online and didn't hear anything for 2 weeks or something. Then I got a call to come in for an interview for the next day, i was heading out of town so I was able to push it back 2 days.
I went in for the interview and was brought into the office and went through the interview. I was asked why the gap? my style, how I keep up with fashion, good customer service vs. bad, similar to what others have posted. I haven't worked in retail for a few years so I thought I did well. My question was how long would the rest of the process take if they were to hire someone today, I was the last interview, and they said "the week after next".
After the interview they said they would call me in a few days either way since they have to complete the rest of the process. It's been almost 3 weeks now since the interview.........
Interview Question – Difference between good and great customer service. (wasn't that difficult but it through me off for a second trying to figure out how to word it) Answer Question

Group interview, casual attire okay. Wear your best outfit for a day at work, being in season, fashionable, and 'Gap-chic'. This may help you stand out if you want a merchandising or supervisor position in the future.
You will all fill out some paperwork.
Some role playing in a group setting. Possibilities include:
Being prompted to push a Gap Card to a customer in given scenarios.
Being asked to suggest accessories or add-ons to a customer's purchase
Being asked to describe in detail your outfit your are wearing (another reason to wear a good 'Gap' outfit)
Be outspoken and aggressive, but not overpowering in a group setting. Gap is a team environment. Both your ability to operate well in a group dynamic and how you react to others is being observed.
Interview Question – Stand up and model/describe your current outfit. This can be a little intimidating in front of the other candidates. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – No negotiation. Starting salary standard.

Very Easy Interview
I applied through an employee referral and the process took a day - interviewed at The Gap in August 2013.
Interview Details – I had a friend who works at Gap that told me they were hiring. He told one of the managers that he had a friend that was interested in getting a job. I was told to call in to set up an on the ground interview. Was also told that although I already had a interview, I needed to also apply online as a formality. Showed up for an interview that lasted maybe 20 minutes. Very friendly interview.
Interview Question – Was honestly a pretty easy interview. All the questions were behavioral. The most difficult one was what would you do if there was a customer that was angry. View Answer
I applied online and the process took 4 days - interviewed at The Gap in December 2012.
Interview Details – You fill out the application online, they'll usually call within a couple days to set up an interview. The meeting is pretty casual, they ask questions like why you want to work for Gap and how fashionable you consider yourself - the usual. In my case, they called me back the same day with an hourly pay offer
Interview Question – If I consider myself to be fashionable or not - I think I am, but what if they don't? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – They offered the wage that I asked for - so don't lowball it on your application, ask for what you want - but be realistic. I had no retail experience and got my 8.25, so don't ask for 9 without experience, etc
