Interviewed Oct 2010 (took a day)
It was an on-campus interview. The recruiter was extremely nice, asked difficult questions as well. He told me a lot of information about the actuarial career as well as the actuarial program in the Hartford. He is a very smart actuary and he likes using fancy vocabularies/ sentences to ask questions. it seems he prepared a lot of questions to ask according to my resume, i could probably have done better if i took more time prepare.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Hartford, CT (took a day)
I interviewed for their Financial Development Program Internship which consisted of a phone interview and was then asked to come back for 5 one on one half hour interviews. They were primarily behavioral questions and focused more on getting to know me and what was on my resume. I got the interview through an employee referral.
Be yourself. They're most focused on getting to know you as a person, what your skill sets are, your past experiences and leadership roles. They want to find out what you can offer them. No real technical questions or big curveballs.

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Farmington, CT (took 3 weeks)
Typical questions: Why do you want to work here? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Describe a difficult situation in past job and how you resolved it? Strengths, weaknesses....
Their interviewing process is nothing extraordinary.

Negotiation Details
NEGOTIATE. Especially if you've worked for ANY other company. The Hartford pays notoriously low, especially in Claims, and they work you like a dog. When you fill out the initial application at your first interview, ask for a *mininum* of $40k for a Claims Processor Position and $45k for Claims Representative position.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Skills Test, a Personality Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Hartford, CT (took 4+ weeks)
The people I spoke with were great. I felt like it was somewhere I could really see myself working and was excited to join the team. The final on-site interview had 3 parts plus lunch and a tour of the company. There was a skills level interview, a personality interview, and a case study. They were all great experiences.

Negotiation Details
No, I wasn't able to negotiate. It's a program with 20+ people entering and the idea is to be all friends and if someone is paid more it puts a damper on that. So everyone is paid the same.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in New Hartford, NY (took 2 days)
The process began with a phone interview, which consisted of many behavioral interview questions (i.e. "Describe a time when...). It took about 25 minutes. She then informed me she would move me to the next round. Two weeks later, I went to a 2:1 interview and also took a long assessment test.

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 4 months)
Frustrating experience as it seemed as if really no one had the authority to make a hiring decision except for the VP/Director of the division. It interview process could have been made much shorter if it had went from corporate recruiter straight to the Senior VP/Director. In the end, the Senior VP/Director preferred a late entrant, internal candidate.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in Hartford, CT (took 3 weeks)
It was terrible. First of all, they brought me into a room with two other interviewees to size all of us up. In the end, it turned out that they were only going to hire one of us from the group because he had an alumni connection within the company, and all the interviewers were alumni of the same school. The interviewers tore me a new one and it was hands down the worst experience ever. Fortunately, my next interview was a success and landed a better paying and more enjoyable internship.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Hartford, CT (took a day)
Only one interview so far, with a representative of HR recruiting. Very thorough and patient interviewer, prompted me to talk in detail about all my assignments (N.B. -- not only those from the past 10 years, but right back to the start more than 30 years ago. The interviewer gave feedback at the end of the 2+ hour interview, saying he thought I was qualified. He promised to get in touch within a week to give me an update.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Hartford, CT (took 2 days)
Found via LinkedIn, worked with internal recruiter to secure phone interview then in-person interviews and testing the following week. They flew me there, with rental car and nice hotel, for the 2 day process. Met with at least 7 people, including HR director, for an hour each plus 90 minute IQ/personality test. One meeting was over lunch in the cafeteria.
Very nice people to talk with, no formal set of questions that I could tell, so each individual had their own style of interviewing. Company seems to be in growth mode, very bullish on future. HQ is spread out over 3 towns in the central CT area, with Hartford being the true 'home office'.
