Interviewed Feb 2012 in Charlotte, NC (took 3 weeks)
Contacted by a recruiter for a phone interview. Phone interview was straight forward and mostly behavioral. The conversation lasted less than a half hour. A week later I was contacted and asked to interview in Charlotte. There were 4 other candidates from other schools around the country also. The day consisted of a presentation, case study, and a few one on one interviews. The interviews were basically all behavioral based. Vanguard is very focused on the client and making investing easy. The whole day lasted from 8 to 1. Everyone was very professional throughout the whole process.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Charlotte, NC (took 2 days)
I applied on-line at the Vanguard site. Was contacted by emal just a couple of days later to schedule a time for a phone interview. The phone interview was with a recruiter located in Pennsylvania. She was very nice. Took about 25 mins or so. I was then contacted about a day or two later to schedule a date and time to interview at the Charlotte location. Interview consisted of two parts. First a 1 on 1 that took about an hour. Went over resume/work history then he asked about 6 or 7 questions from a format that he was following. Not very difficult. Be honest. Second part also took about an hour. Was given a case study to review for about 10 mins. Then had to role play it with a manager while another managed looked on and took notes. Everyone was very nice.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Charlotte, NC (took 2 weeks)
stared with a basic phone screen then asked to come in for face to face. Tough interview started with a 1:1 basic background questions, what do you know about the company, (they have a wealth of info on there website just look aorund as if you were a potential client) point out particulars that interest you. Interview then moved to bahavioral questions about 8 be detailed following the STAR format lasted roughly an hour with front line manager, i was then given a quick break and given a case study with 15 minutes to come up with a game plan and asked to role play with another front line manger while another manager sat through the interaction taking notes (1:2) they wanted to see how you would handle a rather diffucult customer situation. They like when you asked questiions specifically a question that they have never received. Asked where i though i did well, and what were some opportunity areas be honest, its just to see if you are coachable. GOOD LUCK!+
oh yeah remember to turn your phone on silent i had a gaff but fortunately i still got the offer!

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Charlotte, NC (took 2 days)
I found this position on my University's career website and applied. About 2 days later I received an email requesting a phone interview with a recruiter in the PA office which was set for the following week (on a Wednesday I believe). The phone interview lasted about 40 min, a few behavioral questions (Vanguard uses the STAR method to interview people). I was then asked to come in for a face to face interview at the Charlotte office the following tuesday and I was told after that interview I would hear from Vanguard a week later saying whether or not I got the job. So I went in for the interview at the Charlotte office it consisted of two hr long 1 on 1 interviews with 2 different managers. It went really well (make sure you ask the interviewer questions after they're done asking you questions and again know the STAR method). The only problem I had was during the 2nd hr of the interview the manager spoke to me as if he wanted to disuade me from working there...idk I thought that was little weird. But anyway the next week I got a call saying I got the job and I accepted!

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Charlotte, NC (took 4 days)
I attended a Career fair at campus. I talked with the recruiter for more than an hour and she suggested for me to apply and email her for a referral. I had a phone interview and they invited me to HQ. At HQ they had several information sessions, a tour, and 2 1-hour long interviews. They fed us and then sent us home. They paid for the entire trip.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Charlotte, NC (took 3 weeks)
I met with an engineer representing the TLP at Vanguard at a career fair. He was very nice and encouraging. I received a follow up email stating they were impressed and wanted to setup a time for a phone interview.
Unfortunately the HR lady in charge of my interview "dropped the ball" the first time frame we setup so she again contacted me to setup another time the next week. She called me 30 minutes late our 2nd time and seemed completely uninterested. She asked a few typical HR type questions and several questions asking why I didn't just go work for the companies I interned with. She couldn't believe I didn't mind moving for a job and overall left the impression that I wouldn't want to work there. She couldn't describe the positions any more than the flier I received and was generally unhelpful.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Charlotte, NC (took 4 weeks)
The interview process began with a phone interview, asking some behavioral questions and speaking a bit about former employers and salary requirements. This lasted about 45 minutes, and I was invited to Charlotte for a 1:1 interview.
The 1:1 interviews were with two senior level managers and also included a case-study. The questions were mostly behavioral, and grading was according to the STAR method (Situation-Action-Tasks-Results). Be prepared with examples of difficult situations and problems with former groups and employers and how you used your skills and talents to resolve those problems.
Very pleasant and laid-back interview.
