Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 1 week)
I applied for the position through the careers services department at my university. I received a call from HR informing me that I had been chosen to come in for an interview. There were 7 other candidates. We had a general group discussion then we were separated for a 1 on 1 interview. The interviewer asked behavioral questions and hypothetical situations. Have examples prepared for questions like "when was a time you had to prioritize multiple tasks". Then another person asked me similar questions and gave me a situational case study. They're more interested in your thought process rather than right or wrong answers. All of the people were young and very friendly. Each person also held the position I was interviewing for so they could provide in depth responses to my questions.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Charlotte, NC (took 3 weeks)
Contacted by a recruiter for a phone interview. Phone interview was straight forward and mostly behavioral. The conversation lasted less than a half hour. A week later I was contacted and asked to interview in Charlotte. There were 4 other candidates from other schools around the country also. The day consisted of a presentation, case study, and a few one on one interviews. The interviews were basically all behavioral based. Vanguard is very focused on the client and making investing easy. The whole day lasted from 8 to 1. Everyone was very professional throughout the whole process.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Philadelphia, PA (took 3 weeks)
Gave resume to current employee and was emailed about setting up times for phone interview. Phone interview lasted about 45 minutes and was mainly STAR format questions. 1) name a time when you failed and what did you learn from it. 2) Walk us through a time when you had to deal with a difficult client etc... Was invited into Philadelphia office for student day. Participated in group sessions and two 1:1 interviews. The last consisting of a case study. Was very pleased with interview and accepted offer a week later.

Interviewed Feb 2012 (took a day)
I was called by someone in the PA office and I was asked questions like ( or something to the effect of) 1) What 4 things do you look for in a job 2) What type of salary are you looking for. 3) how did I go above and beyond the call of duty, 4) What do you know about the company. Majority of the conversation was based on how if you were to obtain the position you would have to take a test called the Series 7 or Series 6. If you fail the test you will be terminated.

First there is a phone interview that you have to go through. It's a 30 minute phone interview. The company uses the STAR method of interviewing new crew members.
