Northrop Grumman Software Engineer Interview Question (student candidate)

I interviewed in Baltimore, MD and was asked:
"The interview process was laid back and mostly geared towards assessing my personality and fit within the company, so most of the questions were repeats from other corporate engineering interviews. Describe your approach to solving problems and then describe how you implemented the process on a particular project in either work or school."

I described a process for breaking down the problem into discrete pieces that each produced verifiable predictable results to ensure functionality. I described an implementation at both an internship and senior thesis.
