As you know, jobs are scarce in the current economic environment and I'm uncomfortable with the uncertain revenue stream that consulting is currently providing. From what we discussed, it sounds like I will be busy for at least a year or two so I would approach the position as a long-term project. After I have improved the department to my satisfaction, then we could discuss if there is a further role for me at the company. If the role involves simply becoming a caretaker of the department, I expect that one of my employees would have been integrated and trained sell enough to step up and fill that role and I could move on to assisting the company in more strategic areas or we could simply say "I wish you well" and I would move on to my next challenge.
