Inbound Sales Representative at Time Warner Cable

No Offer – Interviewed in Morrisville, NC Jan 2013 – Reviewed Jan 18, 2013

Interview Details – Me and a relative both applied for a job in the customer care . We both went in the following week for an interview and it went great! Their man goal was to generally focus on your customer service skills but it was TRULY about if we could sell. The recruiter called us back and said she wanted to hire us both BUT because we're related, she cant. She then told me based on my experience, I might be better suited for Inbound Sales and she would give me a great recommendation if i'd like. Naturally I said sure and let her give the job to my relative.

I then go in about a week later for the Inbound Sales interview. Unfortunately for me, I was fighting the flu. Regardless, I was prepared. I am called back to meet with another recruiter for a preliminary screening. She asked about my work history and gave me tips on what to prepare for during the second part of the interview. Afterwards I was put in a room to wait for about 5-10mins. Then a guy came and brought me up stairs to the call center floor. It was fast paced and somewhat nerve racking but I was good because I had seen it all in my previous interview. Then he walks me up to this random guy and says "umm hey, we're like slam packed with interviews today so would you mind interviewing him for us?" The guy was like "Sure."

I was irritated because I knew the name of the person who was suppose to interview me and this guy was NOT him. He didn't know a thing about me, my resume, or anything! I had a questionnaire that I had to complete a few days prior to the interview and one question asked how I heard of the job. I answered that I was referred by *Insert Name*. The interviewer asked me "Who Is That?" I told him "...She works here. She's a recruiter in Customer Care." He proceeded to tell me "Oh, I don't know her." He then read over my Resume for a few minutes and proceeded to pull out this packet. The packet had at least 20-25 questions in it and he proceeded to ask me EVERY SINGLE ONE. I quickly realized he was only suppose to ask me a few because towards the end, they got repetitive. I am thinking, It was the SAME questions just worded differently. I was doing great at first but towards the end, as the questions got repetitive, so did I. This made me feel uneasy.

The next morning I got a call from the Lead Recruiter on the hiring team. He said they didn't want to move forward with me because I lacked "enthusiasm and sales experience." **SIDE NOTE: I have been in retail and sales for the past 3+ years and the last year and a half was at a Luxury Department store that shall remain nameless ** so I knew that reasoning was inaccurate. And the enthusiasm thing, I HAD THE FLU. The fact I even showed up feeling the way I did should have spoke volumes.

Then, The recruiter told me although the management team didn't want to move forward with me but, he understood the situation with me giving up the job for my relative, so he was willing to set up another interview for that afternoon. He gave me tips on what he wanted me to work on for the next interview and what things I needed to study. I spent 4 hours that morning prepping and studying so I could go in and knock the second interview out of the park. Bought a new suit and everything. Then when I get to the new interview (with a different guy), I realized it was not an actual interview. It was more of a preliminary interview. The guy asked about my work experience and then proceed to go through 2 role playing scenarios. Afterwords, he asked if I had any questions and the interview was over. The whole thing lasted maybe 15 minutes. About 30 minutes after the interview, I got a call from the lead recruiter saying "thanks but no thanks." then he told me It might be better for me to apply for door to door sales. I responded with a " thanks but no thanks" and hung the phone up. This was the BIGGEST WASTE OF MY LIFE.

Inbound Sales Representative at Time Warner Cable

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Irving, TX – Reviewed Jan 13, 2013

Interview Details – Hiring went alright. I was hired 2 months before I started b/c I had to wait for the next training course to start. Apparently training starts every 90 days. A recruiter will call you and make all the e-mail contacts simply b/c it is a very high turnover rate and they will almost interview anyone that applies. I say this because I work with some people that I would have personally never hired under any circumstance. May take 2 weeks to hear a call back once application is submitted. Be drug free and wear slacks and a tie if male. Females dress modestly.

Interview Question – I had to mimic a sales call. I talked to my interviewer on a phone set up in the neighboring office about cable, internet, and phone service while writting down answers to general questions about myself on a piece of paper. (what is my favorite food, movie..ext) This was a multitasking test b/c the job required a bit of this. Writing and talking @ the same time.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation. Turned out strange because I actually agreed to a certain sort of pay structure (it was very attractive) and by the time I started 2 months later the company overhauled the payscale and I had no choice but to accept the changes. The changes ended up costing the average sales agent $2,000 dollars a month in commission and many veteran sales reps quit very shortly after I started work.

Account Executive at Time Warner Cable

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Los Angeles, CA Nov 2012 – Reviewed Jan 10, 2013

Interview Details – I applied online and was contacted by an internal HR recruiter. I subsequently found a friend that worked there in the same department. Having this contact really helped with the interview process, both knowing what to expect and as a reference. The interview process was 3 rounds: my future boss, and 2 levels up.
Every interview was very interesting and the interviewer was very genuine.

Senior Software Engineer at Time Warner Cable

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Broomfield, CO Dec 2010 – Reviewed Dec 29, 2012

Interview Details – Communication was very good and process was very thorough. There was a 30-minute phone screen followed by a several hour on-site interview with an architect whereby I had to fully articulate a system I developed. The interviewer then picked one piece of the system and asked me to explain it in full detail. The next interview was with two engineers and was incredibly technical. They were reading from sheets of technical interview questions but the questions were VERY thorough and covered the position and what someone with this job title and years of experience should know.

Interview Question – At this point, I don't remember an exact question, but in the technical interview they wanted to know why, not just how. E.g., why I would use the syntax of List<Foo> fooList = new ArrayList<Foo>() rather than ArrayList<Foo> fooList = new ArrayList<Foo>().   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – It was really strange, they asked me what my salary requirements were and I gave them a range and it was like it confused them. I recall them saying "we don't work like that, just pick a number." So I did. I should have asked for 4 weeks vacation instead of the default of three since I was told they frequently do this, but I didn't want to get greedy.

Customer Care Trainer at Time Warner Cable

No Offer – Interviewed in Ontario, CA Nov 2012 – Reviewed Dec 16, 2012

Interview Details – TW Ontario, CA. hiring processess should be questioned as local leadership is not in-tuned with presentation fundamentals regarding logistics. Questionable fairness and ethics with no follow up communication to prospect employee. Bad practices, no follow-through, and lack of integrity. Interviewed with hiring manager, called back for presentation, i was 35-40 minutes early so that i could set up the room and resources, was asked if i needed a projector for powerpoint prior to appointment date - i replied yes, nothing was granted, the hiring manager was late and only allowed me five minutes to set up before presentation, the boardroom had a 55-60' flat panel connected to a out-dated Dell desktop, my back up was printed materials, mobile projector, flash drive, and a laptop. If only I was given the opportunity to put my best foot forward... I understand that we look for pressure related situations in real-world tests, but at least give the prospect every opportunity to succeed and then go from there.

Interview Question – Typical questions focused on past performance examples. Situationals... People, processess, applications, and conflict.   Answer Question
