Interviewed Apr 2012 in New York, NY (took 2+ weeks)
The Phone Interview was pleasant, the interviewer was nice and wanted to check my resume and my expectations for the job (salary, tasks, etc). It took around 20 minutes, and I received an email the day after to go further in the recruitment process. I had to take two skills tests after this phone interview to show my ability to achieve the work. The tests were one hour and a half, and the purpose was to proofread the translation from English language to the target language. The Recruitment staff was really nice with me during all the process of the recruitment, I was able to schedule the dates and hours to take the tests. The results of the tests were given around a week after I took them.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took 3 days)
I applied and received a response from the recruiter in the same day, asking to schedule a phone interview. The interviewer called promptly at the time scheduled and we only spoke for about 20 minutes. It was more of a "getting to know you" call than a true interview.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
He asked me to share my salary requirements. I told him my current rate and what I'd like my next salary to be, and we were more than $20,000 different. I feel they should have been more specific in their job posting just how "junior" of a position this would be.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Referral from a friend who is working as a Quality Control Manager in the company. They have position for Project Coordinator in Hong Kong so I sent my CV to my friend and got a phone call from the Recruitment Specialist. Had a long conversation with him and he decided I should take a skill test, proof reading test and correct the mistakes in some paragraphs. I did well on that so i was given a face to face interview with the Production Director originally. On the day of interview, the Project Manager joined the interview. I passed this and then got a phone interview with the Production Manager in London which is responsible for the team I would be working for. They gave me an offered after a few days.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Lower than my minimum desired salary and I'd be working with a team in London but physically base in Hong Kong which means I will be doing a lot of things on my own and being trained by a manager who is not responsible for my projects. I believe I'd feel deserted.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Skills Test.

Interviewed Dec 2010 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 weeks)
Spotted an advert on a University careers site and applied. I had a background in languages, but didn't want to work as a translator, and it looked like an excellent opportunity. Got a fairly swift response from HR (I had the same contact throughout the process, who was very good) who asked me to complete two exercises one evening. We arranged an evening to do it. The exercises were very easy - both consisted of proof-reading and checking translations, one set of accounts, one essay, full of glaring grammatical / formatting errors. I received an email the next day congratulating me, and looking to arrange a time for a face to face interview. This email also contained salary details - the first time I'd seen them - which were disappointingly low.
We then entered a long process of trying to arrange an interview date; we agreed dates twice, both times being moved by them, before settling on a date and time - apparently one of the US managers was in, and the HR contact wanted me to meet him. Given that I had made it clear that I would be travelling a long way for the interview, this was extremely irritating.
When I arrived, the receptionist seemed surprised. I was in a suit - the rest of the office (which was packed but oppressively quiet) were in jeans and hoodies. My HR contact, who said he'd be there to welcome me, was away, and no-one knew where. Someone else, whose English was poor, showed me in to a meeting room at the allocated time and told me to wait. I waited for fifty minutes, and was very close to leaving. Eventually the US manager arrived, with no apology for being late. The interview itself was fine - a talk through my CV, experience, and what commercial and management qualities I had, all fairly standard - I was working in a similar job at the time. He talked me through the company's growth, organisation, and areas of focus, and we discussed issues about localisation, translation and where I might fit in. At times it felt more like my first day at the job, not an interview, which varied between feeling disconcerting and pleasant. The manager and I got on well, although he was fairly brusque at times, and extremely fond of bragging about the firm's success. A couple of things made alarm bells ring though: I'd read up on the company and put a number of common complaints to him, and he steadfastly refused to accept that there might be anything that the company could improve which, in my experience, is rare. He told me that nearly half of the time was spent of paperwork, and that they have trouble keeping well-qualified candidates like me, because, in his words, 'they have a problem with entitlement and can't take the pace'. He sold the role and the industry well, but made the company sound terrible - and it didn't seem like he even cared. We left on good terms after around 40 minutes. It all felt fairly unprofessional, but encouraging from my point of view; I got a call later that day from my usual HR contact offering me a higher role than that which I interviewed for.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I was fairly desperate at the time, in a dead-end job on low pay. Although Transperfect offered me a higher role than the one I applied for (they offered me a project management role), they were completely deaf to my arguments that taking the post would be a drop in salary for me, as well as a move to a more expensive city. Had they matched my present salary - a small ask, given the bragging I heard in my interview - I probably would have accepted. They were stubborn, and clearly were treating me as nothing more than a resource, even before I accepted. The holiday provision was the bare legal minimum, there was nothing in the contract that guaranteed a bonus - which, after being told that the bonus would compensate for the low wages, was surprising - and the feedback from employees and friends already in the sector was universally appalling. The office felt dead, the managers low-grade; even in my state, with an offer on the table for a job I shold have really enjoyed and that would really have played to my strengths, I just couldn't face taking it. Good thing too - I hung on a little longer and got an excellent position elsewhere.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
It was a very long process. First I sent my CV, then I had 2 phone interviews, one attitudinal tests and one translation tests. After these, very long process where I had to send my documents and other paper signed.
They were still not happy (I was European applying for a job in Europe), and the contacted 2 line managers of my previous jobs for written references.
Once they got all that, I finally had to go for a face to face interview.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in New York, NY (took a day)
I received a phone call from the company asking me to come in for an interview. However, it ended up being more like a phone interview than just setting up an appointment. The person asked me over the phone questions about my past work experience, whether I can handle working in an extremely fast-paced environment, and if I can multi-task and prioritize. After about 15 minutes of questions, the person told me they would like for me to come in for an in-person interview.
On the day of the interview, I was interviewed by one person who asked me the exact same questions that were asked over the phone. After that part, they gave me a skills test consisting of catching mistakes like missing page numbers, etc. on a translated document. It basically tested your attention to detail. After that, I met with another person who asked me more questions about my past work experiences. I ended up sitting around for half an hour because the person interviewing me had to handle some urgent business in the middle of the interview. When the person came back, they offered me a position provided I complete a 2 week trial period. I decided to accept it since I had nothing else lined up.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
On the first day of the trial period, there were about 7 other people starting with me which indicated to me this company desperately needed people. I would soon find out that the turnover rate here is ridiculous. The reason why people leave is that the company hires young people who do not have a choice or know any better and pays them as little as they could get away with. The actual base salary they offered was $5000 less than what they indicated over the phone. These people work extremely long hours for no over time or adequate compensation. Even though the company gives out a "bonus" the amount varies greatly and the managers were very vague about the amount an employee actually makes in bonuses. I was suspicious of this because they kept on insisting that the "bonus" was worth it and is better than getting paid overtime.
After a week of the trial period, I realized that the employees were putting in 12-16 hour days with no overtime, or even time to eat a sandwich away from their desks. That lack of adequate compensation plus being blamed for things outside of their control made me realize this job was not worth the low salary.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in New York, NY (took a day)
I initially applied for the Project Coordinator position through e-mail. After a week with no response, I sent a follow up and received an invitation for a telephone interview almost immediately. The phone interview lasted roughly 10 minutes and consisted of rapid fire questions such as:
Why do you want to work at TransPerfect?
Explain your experience with project coordination.
How will working at TransPerfect contribute to your long term goals?
etc...
The HR rep thanked me for my time and said a hiring manager would contact me shortly. I sent a follow up a few days later, but still no response after 2 weeks. I would appreciate acknowledgment of some sort at this point.
