Interviewed May 2009 in Charlotte, NC (took 5 weeks)
I was contacted by the company 3 months after applying for the position. I honestly did not remember applying as it was my first stab at the actuarial world and I was applying to almost anything I saw. I was initially contacted by the HR person also called the "Talent Acquisition Specialist". He was very polite and informed me about their interest in my resume and immediately set up a phone interview for the following week. That interview was basic, going over my resume and a little background information why I was looking to leave my job at the time and a recap of the position I had applied for. I heard back about a week later that they wanted to set up another interview with the hiring manager. That phone interview took place about 2 weeks later and was a breeze. I was nervous because it was my first phone interview ever and I did not know what to expect but the person I interviewed with did most of the talking explaining the structure of the department and how it fit in with the organization as well as the type of work carried out in that department. He also talked about the location and the weather given that I was living in a different state at the time. The HR person contacted me within a week after that to invite me onsite for an interview. The interview took place on a Tuesday. All travel arrangements were made by the company. I was flown in the Monday night, a driver was at the airport to meet me and drop me off at the hotel which was 2 blocks away. I was given directions to the office (a less than 5 minutes walk away) and arrived at 9:00am for my day of interviewing. My interview consisted of 2 hour long sessions with two levels of management, an hour long lunch interview followed by two more interviews with two levels of management from another department with the same open position and finally a wrap-up interview with the HR person. All of the management interviews involved situational questions (Tell me about a time when...). Most of the interviewers were relaxed yet professional. At this point I knew that I was 1 out of 4 candidates. Two weeks later an offer was extended and I had accepted and a month later I had relocated.
