Interviewed Mar 2011 in Cincinnati, OH (took a day)
I was offered the job as a sales rep, 5 minutes into the conversation. Meaning first impressions are everything. A sales job like this is all about first impressions so if you sound like you can sling some products and have a decent resume or set of experiences to back you, you have a chance. However, their were some things my interviewer told me about the job to make it look more attractive than it was, only to find out the grass was not any greener on the other side.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
No negotiating. Since you are already getting a base pay, its going to be hard to negotiate until you prove you can sell. The pay raise rate policy is laughable at best, something like 6% of your weekly after working longer than a year. The pay raise would be a better platform to negotiate.... this is something like an extra 30 bucks a week... Noo thanks, lets negotiate.
Other Details
I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Wixom, MI (took 2 days)
I was called by the branch sales manager from my resume posted on CareerBuilder. Interview was pleasant and informative. Second interview was, surprising to me, a job offer. I was ready to leave my former company, so I accepted the job offer.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
Negotiation was not an option. I would advise others to ask about the pay structure, as it is slightly convoluted and results in lower pay overall. They may be unwilling to tell you the pay formula. I was unable to find out until I had already signed an employment agreement.

The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Personality Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took a day)
HR called based on Career site posting, went in the following day for 1 on 1 interview, the manager seemed more glad that I could walk and breath, no concise sales related questions assuming that resume was sufficient. Was asked when I could start after 5 minutes of being in the room this was a red flag. Very unprofessional interview, the focus was on the pay with unrealistic commission structure based on the seasonality of the services which is in reference to lawn care.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Too many indicators regarding their management style and attitude towards the sales staff (micro managing)

I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Drug Test.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Waterford, MI (took 2 weeks)
Called next day after completing online application, personality test. Had short phone interview and scheduled a 1:1 interview, had second 1:1 interview and was offered the job. Couple days before starting took drug screen and DOT physical, background check. My advice would be to really get a good idea of the day to day processes before accepting an offer and check with other companies because pay will most likely be better elsewhere.

Interviewed May 2011 in Brookfield, WI (took 4 days)
I went in and interviewed with the Sales Manager and because of my past experience in lawn care we both thought I should check it out and see what Tru Green was all about. We had a great chat that lasted for about an hour or so. Friendly guy.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 3 weeks)
This was quite an extensive proccess. First I did a phone interview with someone from hr, then the hr manager, then the Branch Manager. All along the way i had to go over and over my resume and experience of course. Finally after a few weeks of emails and phone interviews i was given an interview with the branch manager. He was totally unprepared for the interview. He didnt review my resume prior to the meeting and I could tell that he was intimidated by my experience and resume. After rehashing my entire work history in detail and explaining all my (MANAGEMENT and SALES) experience he told me that he would like me to start as a supervisor at half the pay because i lacked experience. (In my previous job i doubled almost 80% of all contracts values in upsells and increased profit to the company as a whole by nearly 30%...( and we are talking millions here not thousands of dollars.......... my commision for sales almost doubled my salary last year........ i guess thats what you call a lack of experience!) I managed about 50 employees and 4 supervisors, dealt with clients and did it all in about 45hrs a week.
I really feel as though the Branch Manager was totally incompitent! Its no wonder the company has such poor reviews. When you have these types of people in the key positions do you really think that they are going to be making the appropriate decisions when it comes to Sales, Service, or employee management? If you are thinking about applying for this company beware!!!!! Though dealing with servicemaster was easy and profesional. At the Branch level This company is useless.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I applied for a management position and offered a labor position at half the pay! After having several more attractive offers on the table i decided to decline. My last words were " thanks for waisting my time!" His were " But i really think you would be a great addition to the crew, we work lots of overtime so really you would be making the same." .......... I guess to be a manager there you must have to be empty between the ears............lol I hope that they are checking the books at his branch cause he surely cant do basic math.

Interviewed Dec 2010 in Boynton Beach, FL (took 2 weeks)
The interview started with a pre interview withe the regional recruiter. Next step was a personality/IQ test. Once I passed those it was another phone interview with the regional HR associate. I was asked many questions about my previos experience and my management skills. After a lengthy phone interview with the HR rep; I asked what the next step would be and was told they would talk with the branch manager. Several days later I was contacted by the regional recruiter and was informed I was not getting this position, they then asked me if I was interested in the same position but different location. I declined

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Wixom, MI (took 3 days)
Applied online and received an email that asked me to come in for an orientation. Went to orientation and was told about drug screen, motor vehicle records and background check. Some candidates left after orientation. Had 1st interview that day with 4 or 5 simple questions. Setup 2nd interview for following day. 2nd interview about 1/2 hour with branch manager and he had 10 questions and asked me to fill out records release. We discussed pay and negotiated an increase of pay rate by 10%. 3rd interview was just a few minutes to collect drug test form. Following week had a 2 day training seminar with Taz. Job seems okay but the hours (12-9) are going to suck! 4 kids and a wife are going to miss out on Daddy during the year but looking forward to a winter weeks off. Commission AND base pay, so I know I will make good money, but family going to dislike hours.
Negotiation Details
Able to negotiate but only because I had extensive landscaping background

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took 2 days)
Called in for an interview and met with the field manager. Nice guy, told me about the position and asked some basic customer service and field related questions. Than I was introduced to the office manager who was much more business like. Asked about my education and some sales oriented questions.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Neither manager could give me a straight answer on how many Saturdays a month the techs actually work. It varied from 1 or 2 and sometimes 3, meaning 6 days and 60 hour work weeks were very common. For about 9 an hour, I didn't think it was worth it.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Fort Wayne, IN (took a day)
I was called by an executive and was offered an interview. She gave me some basic information about the job. I later learned she misrepresented the details. The Sales Manager that interviewed me was very aggressive and interupted me when I spoke. He made a comment that felt like a threat to me. He was very upfront about what the job entailed.
