Interviewed Mar 2012 in San Francisco, CA (took 2 weeks)
Everyone I spoke with from the initial phone conversation through the face-to-face interviews was extremely pleasant and friendly. And the office, in a wonderful historic building in downtown San Francisco, has lots of light and a modern, casual, 'fun' feel about it. And almost everyone seems young, so this could be a particularly good place for a recent grad or someone in the earlier stages of his/her career. However warning: if you aren't in that demographic, know that the application you bring to the on-site interview requires you enter your DOB (which should not be relevant!).

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 2 weeks)
I was contacted about this job from my LinkedIn profile by Trulia's internal recruiter. I had an initial 30 min phone screen with the recruiter who then scheduled a phone interview with the hiring manager. The recruiter was great. She had great energy and well pitched the company to me. This generated real interest and excitement. I had an initial phone screen interview with the hiring manager where we basically talked through my resume. She was very personable during this call and asked rather general questions about my experiences around PR, events, brand awareness, and marketing collateral. Our phone call prompted an invitation to come into the San Fran office to interview 1:1 with her. Prior to my 1:1, I received a large amount of paperwork to fill out to bring with me. They required that you write out a physical application and you must submit to a background check (which strangely included a credit check in addition to the normal background record/ education check) I arrived at my interview - the building was rather old - but the office seemed modern and nice. My 1:1 interview with the hiring manager basically was a re-hash of going through my resume as in the phone screen. I brought a large portfolio of samples and my laptop to show online materials and past strategy plans that I created. These were mostly looked over quickly. The interview was scheduled for 45 min and ran to an hour and a half. At the end of the interview, the manager talked of a hesitation she had. I probed to understand what her concern was and what she was expecting to hear from my experience. She really didn't have a concrete answer to give to a few of the solid questions I posed. She walked me out talking of next steps and "several rounds of interviews" a successful candidate goes through. I never heard back. Not even a "thanks, but not a fit". No communication. I found out that I did not get the job when I saw the job re-posted 3 weeks later.

The interview process took way too long; however the role was very important so I understand the time taken to hire into the role.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Denver, CO (took 2 weeks)
I applied to Trulia online and received a message from their HR department the same day. I returned the call, but got voicemail and left a message. No response. I called and left two more messages. Finally, another person from their HR department contacted me and we agreed to a time to discuss this position.
He made sure I was aware of and ok with the details of the probation period (someone else has listed in the review - yup, the numbers 90 and 25 should mean something to you). He asked me a few behavioral questions over the phone then had me complete two online exams which focused on personality then if I knew how to spell and do basic math.
We set up an in person interview with one of the sales supervisors. I was uneasy that they couldn't tell me who I was going to meet with as I usually like to prepare doing some online research of the person. I arrived to the interview - the office seemed pretty energetic, fun and young. I met with one of the sales supervisors and it had seemed if she never had seen my resume before or ever interviewed anyone before. She read the same exact questions the HR manager asked me over the phone off of a piece of paper, then wrote down my answers verbatim.
Needless to say, I knew I didn't want the job and ultimately went to the interview for the experience. This job is perfect for someone who is right out of college or someone who is completely desperate. Lucky for me, I am neither.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in San Francisco, CA (took 3 weeks)
It starts with a screening phone call. Then I went in to meet the team and do a group interview of about 30mins. I met with the hiring manager for 30mins and then HR for 30mins. I came back for a second round to do 30min interviews with the product manager and engineering manager I would be working with. I received an offer sometime around 3-5 days later from HR.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
HR sent me an email with dates to choose from with a 2 hour interview block. The interview did not take that long and it was a bit misleading. I met with 2 people from the sales department. Everyone in the office was nice and cordial, but the interview questions were a bit condescending and quite frankly redundant. I didn't feel it highlighted any of my skills and the skills needed for this job. I later found it was a low paying, entry level position.
I was given a tour of the sales department and sure enough it was reflected that the company utilizes new grads and entry level job seekers to sell their business services, as opposed to using talented account executives. I did ask a lot of questions about the job, it's requirements and room for advancement. I found there is not much room for advancement in or out of this department.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
Nice offices and smart people. Interview consisted solely of 5 hours of non-stop technical interviewing, 1-hour on each subject. The structure of the company came across as very disorganized, and this was reflected in the interview process.
The interview itself was not altogether difficult, but was extremely grueling. It did not do much for me in the way of letting me see into how day-to-day and month-to-month operations were performed. Even if I had gotten the offer, I probably would have turned it down.

Called in for an interview which consisted of myself and another applicant being interviewed by 3-4 managers. Very nice office, interview with another applicant was a little unusual. Definitely be prepared for sales questions and questions on your sales background.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Denver, CO (took 3 weeks)
Was brought to Trulia from a recruiter posting. Met in person with recruiter. Told of several options of positions.
Did not hear back for the longest time. Then was to have face to face with staff at Trulia.
HR Manager is wonderful. However, the person I was to meet with was not there. I was expecting at the least to reschedule another time. Instead, I met one of their newest hires.
Keep in mind I sat and waited for at the least 10 minutes.
Did not smile. Very uninterested. At one point I thought of walking out. This position and company was of so much hype. I am in an interview with a person who has never seen my resume. And so impersonal I could not believe it. Would smiling hurt you? Showing some interest that I can breathe?
They were are shocked that the sales staff is different when it comes to managing. Gen Y. Yes there needs to be rule, expectations set.
Awesome idea for company. However, the employees are running the show. And the managers seem to have no control. This is a starter sales position.
I did not hear back for ANOTHER week. They were not moving forward. I think it was the correct decision for both parties.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Denver, CO (took 5 days)
First I interviewed with the staffing agency and they recommended that I interview with them. The Phone Interview went okay, they specifically needed to know WHY I wanted to work for Trulia.com (hello, I need a job?!) and they felt my answers weren't good enough as for why Trulia.com so I was declined for the 1:1 Interview. Then after being rejected, Trulia.com called me back and said they wanted to interview me. Good right? Someone must not have worked out which shows interview candidates face-to-face and not based on phone interviews.
During my 1:1 interview with the Manager, I knew instantly I wasn't going to get the job. Questions like:
--"How do you recognize an employee isn't performing at goal?"
--"How do you coach an employee to bring their numbers up?"
--"You look nice and sometimes we goof off around here, how do you get employees back on task" (I was kind of offended when they asked that)
--"How do you use reports to coach to an employee?"
--"Would you be willing to start off at the bottom and work your way up to the position you are applying for?" (Again, offended because I'm an experienced manager, not a rep)
--"How can you tell on a phone call that isn't going so well?"
--"Do you see yourself working here?" (What you think you want me to say lady? No?)
--"Why were you laid off? Were you any good? What happened to your sales reps?"
The Lady Manager was kind of rude and look uninterested in hiring me. They were looking for a manager who strictly uses reports to coach to improvement or firing instead of using people skills to tailor motivators for each rep (that's how I coach). And they were very interested in why I am unemployed.
The next round was suppose to be with the counterparts and their opinion on me. Honestly, I didn't want to work for a company where my colleagues determine if they want to work with me and for a manager who didn't have a sales personality in a sales environment. So, both parties were happy.
