Interviewed Apr 2009 in Davis, CA (took 3 days)
Received an email to take a quiz regarding troubleshooting tech problems. If you passed the quiz, you would receive a 1:1 interview with an associate director, which was a little nerve racking at first but definitely ended on a good note.

Interviewed Jun 2008 in Davis, CA (took a day)
The interview process was quick, about 30mins. You get interviewed as group by all the managers in the company and they will all ask you one question. Most of the questions were basic simple questions about driving. Ex: what will you do if some one wants to get on the bus and wont pay the fare, what will you do if you made a wrong turn, etc

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Sacramento, CA (took 2 weeks)
Predefined questions (approved by HR) with little deviation from script. Standard questions akin to tell me your strengths and weaknesses, where do you see yourself in 5 years etc., however 2nd interview included several scenario-type questions such as "if you knew your employee was having personal problems, how would you help him/her?" and "your director tells you to transfer X $ into X account, but you believe this is not within policy, how do you proceed" and "you have become aware of a likely internal audit, how to do you proceed?". Plenty of time to ask questions during the interview and afterwards. Clearly a nonprofit environment (no such thing as merit increases in salary for more than 10 years now and no such thing as a promotion, instead you have to apply for another job or the higher job in the same department) and yet an employer with many opportunities.

Negotiation Details
Being hired from "the outside" is THE only way to come in at a salary less than the base - one can expect to come in at "midpoint" ONLY if from "the outside". Internal employees are almost always given only 5%, even if the position is several "levels" higher. An outside employee has more negotiating abilities than an internal employee seeking another job. Not much to negotiate beyond initial salary as benefits (excellent by the way) and things like vacation and such are fixed - one may be able to negotiate something like "travel money" for a conference and be sure to identify any planned vacations within the first 6 months otherwise no vacations for the first 6 months (probationary period).

Interviewed Mar 2007 in Davis, CA (took a day)
They take you into a room on the 3rd floor fo the Memorial Union. There was about five or six other people that were getting interviewed in the room. There was 3 people doing the actual interviewing. They asked general questions, like "what do you like to cook?" and "what cooking experience do you have?" They contacted me about 3 days later to tell me I got the job.

Interviewed Mar 2007 in Davis, CA (took 2 weeks)
I applied using the online application service at the University. I was emailed and offered a selection of dates for an interview. The interview lasted 20-30 minutes, and was basically three managers/coworkers asking scripted questions in turn. Just relax and give the information they want to hear. Don't sound forced, keep it natural - they are trying to see if they can stand working in close proximity to you for the foreseeable future. Following the interview, I was given a tour of the facilities, and was pleased by the atmosphere and general friendliness of the staff. I was contacted, again by email, with an official offer within a couple of days.

Negotiation Details
Negotiating is very dangerous when dealing with certain managers, I've found. Tread lightly.
