There is no interview per se for being a graduate instructor. You are usually offered a position through an application process, where you are usually awarded a teaching fellowship or stipend. In the application process you should emphasize all the teaching/educator positions you have held. Whether it was tutoring or an after school program, any experience in teaching will be useful to list - explain your role, skills acquired, and so forth.

Interviewed Sep 2008 in Los Angeles, CA (took 3 months)
It was weeks after I applied online before I was contacted about an interview. Then there were more weeks before the second interview, this time with two other people. Then another week passed before I was told about a phone interview with yet another employee, this time for specific details about a particular area of my experience. Finally, nearly three months after I applied, I was offered the position. The hiring manager told me that HR was very slow in getting to the phase where the job could actually be filled.

I was told that the high end of the stated salary ranges are not available to new employees, that they're the highest pay that can be offered someone in that position regardless of their length of service. No idea whether that's true, but be prepared. I was caught off guard by that and ended up with a lower salary than I wanted. (But the benefits are great.)

I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Los Angeles, CA (took a day)
This was an assistant position in the UCLA School of Theatre Television and Film. Was told I was overqualified but to my background as a TV news producer and public relations manager. Although the University is huge, the department is rather small relatively speaking and seemed very underfunded and behind the times as far as office equipment, administration, and processes.

Interviewed Nov 2008 in Los Angeles, CA (took a day)
I applied for residency position thru the ERAS and received an on-campus interview. They were all one on one interviews where my interviewers just wanted to get to know me better as a candidate. There were no hard case questions. Overall a pleasant experience. Ultimately ranked the program and matched.
