Interviewed Feb 2009 in Pittsburgh, PA (took 2+ months)
I was called by a human resources jockey and passed a phone screening. Then, I was told to come in for an interview, whereupon I met with my boss-to-be. He and I discussed programming basics, my job history, all the normal stuff, nothing too exciting. I had to submit to a physical, a urinalysis, and an extensive background check (for a TEMP JOB), and it took almost 3 months for me to be hired because they kept losing various bits of my paperwork.
From what I experienced, the work environment at my division was pretty standard of a cube farm in 21st century America – bland cubicles, unimaginative business casual, lots of people with their heads down in their work. A few people were friendly. Most wanted to get their work done and go home. A few schmoozed with upper management in hopes of getting promoted. All in all, a completely unremarkable business culture.

Negotiation Details
We settled on a 40K salary, and when I got my first paycheck I noted my rate had been shaved down to 32K, a pretty egregious discrepancy. I called HR, and their response was, "There is no room for negotiation in this position." So in essence I was offered the spot on completely false pretenses.
If you get an offer here, double-check that, and triple-check that! They may bilk you out of salary anyway, but make sure you get everything in writing or else! Also, if you get an offer, consider turning it down because it will be considerably lower than market. Of course, since you live in the capital of eds and meds, UPMC may be one of (if not your only) options.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.
