Interviewed Dec 2011 in Austin, TX (took a day)
Received a call from HR for an interview. I was interviewed by the Accounting Supervisor. Interviewed lasted for 25 minutes. She asked me about my work experience and that's pretty much it. Employees look very nice and friendly. Would love to work at URS but they never called me back after the interview. I contacted HR twice to follow up, but no reply from them.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took a day)
The recruiter was at a hiring fair and was very approachable. He told me to apply online and return with my resume. I gave him my resume to compare to what was expected of the job, and was put through to a hiring manager.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Tampa, FL (took 5 days)
Met with their Controller to discuss the position. He asked some very broad questions such as "how would you start a billing center", "how long do you think it takes to train people". This guy basically wanted me to come in and give him a master plan on how to create a billing center from scratch. Nowhere in the job description did it even hint on this. As such, was a little suprised by these broad open-ended questions.
The long and short was that we ran out of time. He specifically told me he wanted to continue our conversation and hopefully could do so as early as that same Friday.
I left a message with the regional HR rep and emailed the Controller asking when we could set up the next meeting. Neither returned my correspondence.
I finally got an email from another HR person saying they decided on another candidate.
I guess you take the Controller's word with a grain of salt. If the guy is going to lie, this isn't someone I want to work with or be a mentor.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Interaction started with on campus recruiting. They were conducting interviews for multiple positions, with lots of different majors.
They had an info session the day before the interview where they covered a lot of the basics about the company, I guess to eliminate some of the basic questions we might have during the interview so they had more time to learn about us.
The interview the next day was pretty typical on-campus-interview stuff. Strictly behavioral, typical questions about class projects, prior work experience, group work, etc. The recruiter said he'd get back to me regarding whether or not I'd receive a second round interview within two weeks.
The recruiter emailed me after a week letting me know I'd gotten a second round interview where I'd do an office visit. We set up a date for three weeks later.
The second round interview consisted of seven 1:1 interviews with a variety of people within the company. Since I was applying for a general Civil position, I met individually with three department heads for different divisions within the office (Hydraulics/Hydrology, Water Infrastructure, and Transportation).
I also met with a couple of engineers that had been in industry for 10-12 years, and a couple of engineers who'd been there for 3-4 years. Each interview was basically the same, which made it easier throughout the day since they would often ask similar questions.
There was also a technical/semi-technical presentation portion in which all of the people that had/would interview me throughout the day watched as I gave a presentation for a project I'd worked on in one of my senior level classes. There was a 30 minute time slot for presentation/Q&A. It wasn't bad. Nobody really grilled me on anything.
After lunch with a couple of the most recent hires, I finished up the 1:1 interviews before meeting with HR at the end of the day to discuss insurance/benefits.
A couple of weeks later one of the department heads called me and told me that they'd be extending an offer. He asked for a start date and salary expectations.
Seven 1:1 interviews, lunch, and a presentation seemed really overwhelming when I got the itinerary for the interview a couple of weeks before, but honestly it really wasn't bad. After two interviews I'd basically heard every question that anyone else ended up asking me, and once that anxiety was gone it was like having normal conversations with people.
And my uncle pointed out to me afterwards that if a company is going to invest the time and resources into such a thorough second round interview, you're probably already in pretty good shape.
I think the second round interview style used is great because it gave me a chance to interact with people at a variety of stages in their career and gave me more of a chance to see the types of people I'd be working with. When choosing between offers that I received, I ultimately chose URS because I felt like I knew more about what I was getting myself into than another company in which I'd just interviewed with one department head.

When asked about salary requirements, I just threw out the average for recent Civil engineering grads from my university. It was a little higher than the average listed salary on glassdoor.com, which was 55k.
When they sent me the offer, it actually ended up being a couple of hundred dollars higher than the number I'd given them.

I got the interview through a College or University and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Presentation.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Fort Washington, PA (took 4 weeks)
I saw an opening for an environmental scientist posted online on the URS website. I contacted a good friend who used to work at URS and asked if I should apply and he encouraged me to. He gave me the name and contact info for a human resources person to which he told me to send my resume. I did, and received a reply that my resume had been forwarded to the head of the department hiring. After 1 week this person contacted me by email to set up a phone interview. That took another 2 weeks. After the phone interview he said he would discuss me with his staff and set up an in-person interview. After 2 weeks, nothing. Then I received an automated email asking for an online submitted resume. I spent 2 hours filling this out. Still, 1 week later I'd heard nothing. Another week went by and I called to ask the status. After 3 more days I received an email from the person who'd interviewed me saying basically "thanks, but no thanks." So, the whole interview process from the time I submitted my resume to the end was about 2 months. In the meanwhile, research on this site showed a sincere unhappiness among present and past employees at URS, so although I was frustrated with how it was handled, I was not too upset at having possibly dodged a bullet in working there.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Aiken, SC (took 4 months)
HR called to set-up day and time for phone interview. Three on the panel each asked questions. Some of the interview questions were situational and general questions on procurement process. For example why should we hire you. Are you a risk taker.
Can't think of the other general questions. Had a hard time hearing some of the questions due to the conference calling equipment.
Perceptions: Lack of communication and people skills like most government contactors. This was a newly created position and my impression was this group didn't know what kind of person they needed to fill it.

Interviewed May 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
The first interview is a phone interview by a human resource representative. It usually narrows down pretty fast to only 15-20 or so before you get this phone call. You will be schedule for an on-site interview shortly after. The fun part is the on-site interview where you alternate around with four 1:1 interviews. Each 1:1 interview is usually 30 minutes each. Be prepared somewhat, and be yourself. URS usually looks for character as well as your qualifications. Have fun :)
