No Offer – Interviewed in Charlotte, NC Dec 2012 – Reviewed Jan 22, 2013
Interview Details –
Completed the online application on the Thursday and on the Monday I received the phone interview call. Simple to harder questions on past experiences along customer service lines....acting in a team etc.... Was put on hold for a bit then told I had passed the phone interview and will be asked to attend an interview in CLT. I had to wait about 2 weeks before they got back to me regarding the interview date....
Flown down early morning, returned later that night.
All us FA hopefuls gathered at the bus stop, all dressed up like professionals...smiling, laughing, introducing ourselves....we were all so excited. Took the bus to the Headquarters and after checking in at the front desk, we were walked to the canteen where a group of current employees holding clip boards entered the room and came over to speak with us...(checking us out) Then we were divided into 2 groups....we then went into another room and watched a presentation on the lousy pay and conditions....but the brilliant benefits.
We all took turns to stand up in front of the room to say who we were, where we are from and what makes a good FA in no more than 1 minute....FA's are jotting notes the whole time on your performance...or lack of it.....(I actually thought they were prejudging you on your looks rather than your experience, speach, manners etc)
We were able to help ourselves to coffee, snacks, cookies etc...and they provide a lovely lunch....they make you sit in the room for hours and hours....all the time leading you on to think your doing so well...
Reach and jump seat test - Im 5'3" and grabbed the heart starter in the overhead no worries....
Eventually we were called one by one into the 1:1 interviews...into a room full of others doing them...I got a guy who was a current FA and we got on well. He made a point of saying how well I answered the questions and I had no need to worry about getting thru to the next stage.
So I was really astounded - as was most others in the room on the day - that after lunch my name was called and I was walked to the front desk to give back my entry card and name tag.
AS was nearly everyone else walked out.....Understandably some candidates were not very professional in their appearance, and some didnt dress appropriatly, some lacked mannerisms or the ability to mix with others....but in the end we that headed back to the airport early were convinced that they were more interested in hiring bilingual speakers on the day. As they were the only ones left in the room....
Overall the questions during the 1:1 interviews were unusual and not testing your ability of past experiences in dealing with customer facing roles....nor did the questions seem relevant to working with teams....not sure if everyone got the same questions....
in conclusion: I had a great time on the day....I enjoyed meeting everyone...but was disappointed in their interview/recruiting process....I hate the way they lie to you.....
Lucky for me I was given a job offer with another airline 2 weeks later....which will not mean reserve/on call for 10 years like US airways were suggesting we would have to endure....so Im gratefull of not being given a job offer...
