Interviewed Jun 2009 in Carson, CA (took a day)
I applied for the job online through USAJobs.com. I was looking to relocate from VA to CA. As is usual with the government, there is a long lag between the time you apply and the time you are notified for an interview. I was contacted at work by the hiring supervisor to set up the interview.
My interview was on the phone with a panel of 5. Only 2 of which asked questions; one of which was the SME. I was asked at length about contracts, cost analysis, and Earned Value Management.
A few weeks later I was contacted via e-mail with an offer. Over all from applying for the job to accepting the job it was about 8 months. There was only one interview. My advice is that you read the job announcement, understand the expected duties, and do research about the agency. Remind yourself of two things:
1. You don't have to know everything they are asking about. Most companies are looking for trainable employees with good work ethics.
2. It's ok to talk highly of yourself but be able to back it up with facts and actions.
