Interviewed May 2012 (took 1+ week)
I had applied to Ulta about a week and a half ago. I got a call on Monday to plan for an interview today. I stood there waiting in the store longer then the interview actually took. The first question was what was your prior employment experiences (even though i had filled that out in the application- and she could see it right there)? I answered the question. Her follow up question was "why do you think selling clothes has anything to do with selling cosmetics"? I answered that the two didn't correlate but that i was interested in both and thats why i applied to Ulta. The third question was if i was in school. The fourth question was if i was okay with 8 to 23 hours per week. I only applied to the position because it said it was full time. The staff at the store were very impolite and questioned why i was there so much earlier then my interview was. At the end of the interview i was informed that others still had to be brought in for interviews, and if i were to hear anything it would be with in a week.

Interviewed Apr 2012 (took a day)
I applied to Ulta online as was contacted about a week later to come in for an interview. When I arrived, there was one other girl there being interviewed for the same position. I was not aware that is was going to be a double interview. We went to the back with a manager and she asked us the basic questions such as why we wanted to work there, what motivates us, and example of good and bad customer service, and a time when we had to use teamwork. She then informed us of what the job would be like if we got hired and what we would be responsible to do. She also asked if we knew anything about makeup. I know a little bit and that is what she I said. We were told if we didn't know anything that was okay. She did'y either when she first started, but we would quickly learn, so don't let that part intimidate you. The whole thing was very casual and relaxed. After she told us she would try to contact us that night, and if not in the next few days. I was called the following day by another manager on her behalf and was offered a position starting at $8.25. I accepted it and was asked to come in the next afternoon to get some of the basic paperwork out of the way. I haven't had my first day yet, but it is looking good and I am excited to start!

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Applied online and got a phone call the next day to schedule an interview a week later. I wasn't told it would be a group interview but there were three other girls there to be interviewed too. The questions were fairly simple. Why Ulta? What do you like best about this store? what do you buy here? Describe past situations, etc, etc. Three out of four of us got a job offer. The girl that wasn't asked to stay was absolutely horrendous. Arrived late and had no experience in a retail store or much less a cosmetics store. She wasn't wearing any make up, was in jeans and a tee shirt and you could just tell would be compleatly out of place in a cosmetic retail store.
If you go to the interviewed dressed well, (all black, which is their dress code is best), wearing at least some makeup, and just sound confident and upbeat, you will most likely get the job. One of the girls in the interview had no past work experience at all but she was friendly and talkative and they offered her the job.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took a day)
Contacted a couple of days after applying online and scheduled interview for the following week. Arrived for the interview and asked the basic questions, such as " Why Ulta?", "Have you had any conflicts with fellow employees?", etc. Pretty laid back and straightforward.
Interview lasted about 15-20 minutes and was contacted the same day to extend employment offer.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Comstock Park, MI (took 4 days)
I got the listing for the job from a job search site. I went to the website and filled out the online app. One week later I got a call asking me to come in for an interview. The interview went smoothly- it was conducted before the store opened. Very friendly conversation, I was only asked a few questions. What hours was I hoping for, why did I want to work at ULTA, what was one good and one bad experiance I had in a store with thier customer service, and where there going to be any days I wanted to tell in advance that I would need off.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took a day)
Hardly an interview at all! Was asked about schedule availability on the phone, then asked to come in for a few minutes to review my application. Only non-schedule question i got asked was why i wanted to work at ulta. And actually I had forgotten the answer that I prepared and blanked so all I could manage was "well.. I love beauty!" Still got the job.

She explain the dress code and asked if I was interested in part time or full time. It was very basic interview.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took 3 months)
I was given an extremely formal interview with one of the managers. She asked my why I want to work for Ulta and a few other typical questions. The interview went really well. At the end, of the interview she asked me what day I could start. I told her and she said okay and put my training date on the calendar. She gave me a card with a training date and her number and told me to call her before I came in. I anxiously awaited for the day to call her at exactly ten o'clock. I called and she was extremely puzzled. She said, "Training?, you have to go through another interview with the second manager so she can sign off on it". I said okay and I tried to reach the other manager. This did not every happen because she mysteriously couldn't talk or wasn't in all of the three times I called. I called the original manager who I interviewed with to try and find a way to contact the other manager. She acted confused again and said, "ohhhhh well so and so put a freeze on our hiring", which could be what happened. However, I was promised a training date, then a second interview. They weren't even professional enough to call me back EVER. I had to look like a fool and bother them repeatedly. The strung my along since somewhere around February until May.

The interviewer was extremely nice. She asked basic questions like why do you want to work for ulta, describe yourself, etc. Then we talked a little about casual things that weren't really related to the job. Make sure to dress nicely and professionally, as she complimented me on that. She said she'd call when I was available to work.
