I applied for the flight attendant position and United flew me out to meet with their staffing agency first. This is a 30 minute screening interview. Once I passed this I was scheduled to return about 2 weeks later for the interview at United. It consists of a group interview and a one on one session. I was not offered the job. But the interview process is similar to those of other airlines.

Submitted application online and was contacted within a few days to schedule a phone interview with HR (interview was more informal - about culture, fit, job description). A second phone interview with the hiring manager followed a couple of weeks later. This interview focused on my skills and experience in performing similar work elsewhere. I was invited to an interview at their headquarters to meet with HR, hiring manager, team of peers, and director of the group. The peer interview was unprofessional - one of the interviewers just got up and walked out while I was speaking with no explanation and never returned. I was then given a skills test (not case questions) that would be appropriate for a recent high school graduate and not someone with an MBA and 17+ years industry experience. I was insulted. Aside from HR and the hiring manager, most of the staff were cold and unfriendly and I was relieved to receive a form reject email a few days later. While I invested a great deal of time with this process, it was worthwhile to discover this isn't a company where I want to work.

Positive phone interview with good rapport on both sides. Securing interview and getting follow up response took several weeks of recurrent follow up. Prompt responses from HR at all times - but rather limited in content. It seems that HR and the business units do not have frequent contact in the process - which greatly delayed candidate scheduling, status updates, and feedback.

Interview Questions

Good blend of strategic and tactical questions with direct focus on departments objectives. Assumed that candidate had invested sustantial thought into applying experience to UAL position sought. Good approach here.

HR called with several phone interviews, in person took place at HQ. Interviewer was distracted. Questions focused on interviewers past which was agency based. Although position was positioned as one of change the 'supervisor' was definately looking for the same old thing.
