Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN – Reviewed Apr 15, 2013
Interview Details – Applied online, received call back, interviews with several leaders and individuals across two half days. Had scheduled back to back interview meetings through two days. Met other team members while interviewing. Post interview time took a couple weeks (typically takes much longer here) to receive a response. Went back in to meet the hiring manager and received job offer in person. I took a weekend to review and make decision. Accepted and received final offer details in mail.
Interview Question – Knowledge of insurance landscape and direction. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Able to negotiate in bonus and salary, made some movement. Very open to discussions.
No Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN Feb 2013 – Reviewed Mar 4, 2013
Interview Details – I was scheduled for a phone interview with HR which they failed to call me on the arranged time. I waited about 20 minutes then I called HR and left them a voicemail about the failed interview. HR then emailed me back one hour later and admitted to their fault for not calling and rescheduled a new phone interview date. HR finally called me at the right time and date but they didn't seem to be sorry that they messed up the first time and the HR recruiter didn't seem too excited about the company as well. It felt rushed and pointless since HR hung up right away after asking only three questions. It's been about a month now and I haven't heard anything back.
Interview Question – Why do you want to work at UHG? Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN – Reviewed Feb 28, 2013
Interview Details – First interview was a screening interview by an external sourcing company. Second round since I was not located in Minnesota was a phone interview with 3 people. It was all behavioral with no technical questions.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN Jul 2011 – Reviewed May 13, 2012
Interview Details – First there was an interview over the phone with an HR representative, then an interview over the phone with the hiring manager, then an in person interview with three different individuals in the department.
Interview Question – The most difficult in person questions via one of the interviewers is that it was basically an open conversation on the area I would be working in. View Answer
Reason for Declining – I was offered another position and accepted before I was offered the position.
No Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN Feb 2012 – Reviewed Apr 19, 2012
Interview Details – They gave a surprise skills test with no warning and it was fairly difficult as there was barely enough time to complete it and somewhat hurried, vague instructions. The building/offices seemed nice and relatively new. They asked beforehand to bring references to the interview and they said nothing about them through the whole interview. The people seemed nice enough but the interview was very one-sided and they gave me almost no opportunity to ask questions. Also one of the interviewers damaged one of the samples I brought to the interview. It seemed like they were just hustling people in and out of these tests/short interviews and I was one of the first ones. A week later I called to check on the status and was called back within 10 minutes and when I picked up the phone it went dead. Maybe 2 or 3 weeks later I received an email stating I was not longer being considered for the position. Overall I was treated pretty poorly - it's probably a bad omen for how they operate.
Interview Questions
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN Sep 2011 – Reviewed Mar 21, 2012
Interview Details – It all started with an informal phone interview, basic behavioral questions and questions regarding my experience and schooling. Another phone interview was conducted with one of the hiring managers, which were additional behavioral questions and information on the company culture. Final interview was a group panel (2 hours long) of higher level associates asking behavioral questions. Pretty easy and relaxing process.
Interview Question – General behavioral questions geared at teamwork, accountability, communication, ethics View Answer
Negotiation Details – I was not able to negotiate, but the offer was generous. If you can negotiate, do it. The annual raises at UHG suck.

Submitted my resume through the company website. Was contacted by HR for a 1/2 hour interview. Very brief and concise.
Contrary to my initial perception and belief about UHG and the HR department, the HR department did a wonderful and thorough job. Kudos to you guys :)
Was invited for a interview with the hiring manager.
Meeting with the Hiring manager..(1Hr)
- Hiring manager showed up 15 minutes late for the interview . No apologies whatsover.
- Met at the lobby .
- took me to the 1st available conference room (did not book a conf rm)
- Got booted out of the conference room in 15 minutes (someone else had the conf rm reserved)
- Went to different conf rm ( Got booted out again in 10 minutes)
- Moved to the 3rd Conf room for 15 minutes.
- Interview over.
I am not sure how this hiring manager got hired and I sympathize his directs reports for working with such a disorganized, disrespectful manager/individual.
Got called in for another round of interviews.
However, after my previous interview experience here, I lost my interest working for such an individual and firm, I decided to not accept the position or continue further
Interview Questions
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Minnetonka, MN Nov 2011 – Reviewed Nov 16, 2011
Interview Details – My interview started off on a bad note, as I could overhear the people that were going to interview me in the room next door... they were bashing the company, bashing their supervisor, and complaining about how they didn't have time to be doing interviews. Then, awkwardly, they came out and greeted me. Interview was moderately challenging, they asked a variety of standard behavioral and technical questions. I got an offer, but since the whole interview process started out so strange, I thought it was better to accept an offer from a different company.

I applied for a different position prior to this one through an external recruiter, and while I did not have any luck with that, I was referred by UHG hiring manager (who had interviewed me for that prior opportunity) to another team, who took a look at my profile and was interested, and had me apply online for that position at their careers website so they can get my application through their system and get me an interview.
A week later someone from Recruiting called me and scheduled a phone interview, which was scheduled later that day. A different recruiter called at the said time asked me a few questions, mostly the same questions that was on the job submission page, so I basically just repeated what I had answered and provided a bit of an explanation on my answers. He seemed satisfied with my answers and told me that they will forward my application to the Hiring Manager and I should expect a call depending on when the managers' availability my application and I can check the careers website for my status.
A week later I received a call from yet another Recruiter, this time to schedule a face-to-face interview with the Hiring Manager and the department Manager. I scheduled the interview the next day (while I would've liked to be able to have more time to prepare, this was the only time available for that week). I received an email confirmation for the scheduled interview, with instructions on who to contact, where, and how to get in.
I met with both the Hiring Manager and the Manager during my interview, mostly answered questions about my job experience, my expertise on the technology that I applied for, and STAR questions. It was a laid-back interview, and that helped with my confidence - they seem to be very nice people. The interview was short - probably half an hour for both, give or take 15 minutes for questions I am free to ask them. Upon leaving I provided them with a copy of my resume, this time including my references.
And yet another week passed (I admit I had thought I shouldn't expect anything) - I was caught off-guard by a call from HR, who called and formally extended the offer for this position! I was ecstatic because this is the ideal position I was looking for (I think I was to the point of blabbering). They asked if I would accept it - and I said yes. I was given brief details about the start date, the salary, the benefits, PTO (contingent upon completion of background checks). I received several emails after the call - a copy of my Offer Letter, and instructions to some time-sensitive onboarding requirements I have to do. For my position I had to complete a urinalysis drug test, plus submit some stuff for my background checks (e.g. educational, criminal, employment histories). From what I know, the type drug/background checks depend on what position and situation you are in.
Except for the fact that I got initially confused being passed on to one recruiter to another, it was an overall positive experience, and I am looking forward to my future growth in this company.
Interview Question – Mostly STAR questions, such as - "give a situation where you had to deal with a difficult customer?" or "tell me a situation where you had to get out of the way to help someone?" View Answer
Negotiation Details –
I was given slightly higher than what I asked for, so I did not have to negotiate. Besides, I was more into the learning experience.
I would say, simply assess your skills vs the position you are applying for and do some research on your own so you can have a basis on what your rate should start with. Make sure you have a range instead of a specific target rate.
