Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I submitted an application online using the University of Michigan's employment website. I was contacted via email and was then asked to come in for an in-person interview with a number of people who worked in my department. I was asked to come in for a follow up interview a few weeks later, and was then offered the job shortly thereafter.

Online application, sent in by mail to the admissions office and received an interview at the campus. It was a beautiful campus and the school has a great football team. The school was amazing and I really liked the people. The staff was very friendly and the facilities were top notch.

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took a day)
This was a functional interview. I had to demonstrate that I could perform the tasks that were given in the job description. We also spent time talking about my job history. The whole thing took about an hour, if it lasts less than 30 mins, that's a red flag. They called me back two days later, I returned to complete paperwork. After that, they send a series of e-mails to get the hire process going. After that, you attend training and get to work.
I described the interview as "easy" because all you had to do was follow instructions, but you'd be surprised how many people don't read and follow instructions properly.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Ann Arbor, MI (took a day)
The interview was very straight forward. They asked me about my interests in nano fab and my relevant course work. They also wanted to know how much of the equipment in the lab I was familiar with. I was only proficient with SEM but my experience showed that I have had to use complicated tools before. As long as you know why you want to work there your fine.
