Interviewed Aug 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took 2 weeks)
The interview itself was held with the Director; I only had one interview where I was told that I was one of three people they were interviewing. The atmosphere was comfortable and the interview itself, while more difficult than others I have experienced, still felt more like a conversation than like I was being "grilled" with question after question.

Interviewed Dec 2011 (took a day)
They obviously had a certain type of person they were looking for. They spoke poorly of the current employee that I would be assuming duties of (she was retiring) so it seemed uncomfortable. They kept fishing for the answers they wanted to hear-I didn't catch on.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Morris, MN (took 4+ weeks)
At first it was with a phone interview. Then there was a 2 hour meeting in person broken up into 4 15 minute sessions with breaks in between. One meeting was one-on-one. One was with a small group, then a larger group, and a larger group. They showed me around and were very friendly. This was a different interview than I expected, but it was a very positive experience.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Minneapolis, MN (took a day)
The University only allows online submissions though its HR portal, so this was how I applied. From knowing people who work at the University, I must say that this process is ridiculous. If you miss mentioning one single task that is required for the position (like not putting down that you know how to answer a phone, even though you've been a secretary for ten years), your application is rejected.
I was called for an interview for a union-represented executive assistant position in the Office of the Vice President for Research, so the interview had to go completely according to the union mandates. There were three people present during the interview and the questions were stock questions that asked about my general skills. After the interview, I was offered the position but was appalled at the amount of pay they offered. They said that the union stipulated what pay could be earned, but I did some investigating on pay, which is made public, and found that the union excuse was a load of bull. I've since learned from employees that low-balling in the pay negotiation phase is rampant and that its not unheard of at all to find out that a gullible supervisor with 10 years experience isn't earning as much as a new hire working for them. It's all a lot of lies apparently.

I was working in another position at the U of M and was asked if I would be interested in my current position when the person who had the job before me left.

Negotiation Details
Yes - I asked several people in the office for their opinions of the job so that I could determine if it would be a good fit for me. Best advice for others considering a job offer: Try to talk to the people you'll be working with to get a feel for the work environment and attitude.

Interviewed May 2009 (took 2 weeks)
I applied to the online posting on the University website and was called for a phone interview that simply asked about basic qualifications such as lab experience (biology, chemistry, and physics) and academic coursework (math courses, physical science, chemical science). I had a strong referral from inside the department that significantly shortened and eased the process. A complete background check, including driving record (I believe you can not have any moving violations within the previous year).

They asked me to talk about any topic of my choice. They basically tested my fluency in English language.
To test my teaching ability I had to chose a topic related to Computer Science and the next day had to discuss that topic in class room environment.
