Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Straight-forward interview style, in a group setting. There were two interviewers and they asked about customer service, style, interest in the store and other UO-related questions. Two were hired from this group. Be personable, upbeat and quick - show your interest but be yourself.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in New York, NY (took 5 days)
I came in to ask for an application, the associate took it from me when I was finished and told me he would make sure he would hand it directly to the manager (very nice of him). I got a call a day or two later for a group interview, went, and it felt more like a group conversation on things like our personal style, our history with Urban, our thoughts on the store and the brand, and our experiences with retail. It was pretty laid back so they could get a feel of who you are. Then, the interviewer pulled us to the side one by one to have a brief chat with us about our availability, what department we'd like to work in, etc. Since she wanted to move forward with me personally, I was handed a slip of paper to take home and fill out a personality test online. It just had things about theft, punishment, etc. The next day I got a call to come in for a one on one interview with the store manager. I got there and I don't think anyone told her I was coming in, and during the interview, she didn't have my application or notes from my previous interview with a different manager in front of her, and she wasn't writing down anything I was saying, and she didn't seem to be listening to much of what I was saying, so I was sure I didn't get the job. It was more of her talking to me about the position itself than her asking me things. I got a call an hour later with a job offer I accepted!

Negotiation Details
There was no negotiation. All salaries here depend on experience. I was started off at an hourly rate higher than people that had been there longer than me solely for my years of experience.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Personality Test.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took 4 months)
HR at this company is really disorganized. One has to stay on top of them to keep the process going. They never call or communicate as promised and then when they call you it's a last minute scramble to adjust to their schedule. After the first interview I was told that there would be a second. I then waited weeks to be called back. This was the MO for the whole process, it was draining and very disheartening.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
No negotiation, they have so many candidates to fill their positions, that you are made to feel lucky to be offered a job within the company. They are most young fashion or merchandise college grads dream job, but the reality of dealing with them was not glamorous or professional.

I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Presentation.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Troy, MI (took a day)
I had applied online for one position, got called in for another position, and ultimatly hired for a third position. It's nice that they actually keep your information on file (like many companies say they do). Only downside was the lack of communication between the steps. No word of if I had gotten position 2 then all of a sudden contacted me a month or so later offering me position 3.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
I didn't really do much negotiating. I asked for a certain pay amount and they came back w a little less and I took it. I knew I was asking for more than they usually offer so I felt it was fair.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Indianapolis, IN (took a day)
Interviewed with one other person. They definitely asked a lot of questions about inspiration, etc. They wanted to hire someone with a lot of experience since this was a new store. There were a lot of questions about where I got inspiration, and they wanted designer names and things along those lines. It was low stress, it was just me and another prospective employee with two interviewers.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Newark, DE (took 2 weeks)
I had a group interview with an amazing employee she asked us questions like "If you were a cereal, what would you be?" I said Fruit Loops because they are bold, colorful and their is something for everyone. It was the best retail interview I've had honestly, so fun!

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 4 weeks)
okay, first interview was at a job fair one on one with a team leader. general questions about my experience and what fashion and leadership meant to me. he saw that i had management experience and stated that that was the qualification for team lead but it wasn't lengthy enough for a departmental manager. i was applying for team lead position with the hope of moving up in the company. the interviewer was really nice and i felt good about the interview. got a call the weekend of for a second interview that was a group interview in their stock room that looked like a dungeon...many flights of steps down :O. group interview went well and i felt i was able to stand out. i was told i would be contacted in a weeks time. a week later, got a link in my email for the personality test. completed it, and a week later got an interview with the head visual merchandiser and the store manager. actually i got there early and they were 30 minutes late to interview me. apparently they were waiting for me down at the dungeon...while maybe they should've come up or called upstairs to ask if i had arrived. the manager working told me earlier that he had notified them. there was clearly a communication and time management problem that i found unprofessional. i finally got the interview and made it clear i was applying for team lead....we spoke about my previous sales, management and retail experience . i did feel though that they were not assessing my experience but rather my look, and how i answered the questions, they didn't seem to be paying much attention. anyways got a call three days later with a job offer.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
i chose to decline the offer because i felt and stated clearly that i was applying for team lead .....and the manager called me to offer me part time sales!!!!!! and it was quite clear that my skills and experience were far above that which i was being offered.... and at minimum wage!!! i then asked why i was offered sales while i applied for team lead.... and she said all the positions for team lead were filled!!! so why did u waste my time for weeks then? just don't call back if your not searching for that position! it was so disrespectful. and a waste of my time. i still love their clothes and culture though. the interview process also helped me become more aware of my skills, abilities and what i could offer a company. they missed out on me.. not the other way around ;). good thing i kept my current job during the interview process...yes, the end was not what i expected....but you live and you learn.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Minneapolis, MN (took 3 days)
I went in for a job fair I had seen posted online. I filled out an application with standard questions written on it, except for one being, Where do you get your fashion inspiration form. After I filled out the application I was called back to do a group interview. This consisted of another applicant and the store manager. She just went through the position description and details. Let us know that Urban was a fun and edgy place to work, but the only thing they didn't tolerate was gossip. She was probably the nicest manager I had ever encountered. After the interview, she asked if we had any questions for her and then gave both of us a piece of paper that had information for us to take a personality survey online. I took the survey the next day and the day after I received a call asking if I had taken it. Once they found my results I was offered the position. I don't think I was judged on my appearance at the interview, but I could be wrong. At least at this Urban, they make you feel very welcomed.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in New York, NY (took 1 week)
Had a great time at the group interview. Walked in, handed in my application, waited around for someone to bring us to an area of the store where we could interview and had fun being ourselves and explaining about what we listen to and why we'd love to work at Urban. Got a call back a week later with a job offer. 8.75 an hour with no experience! Just be yourself and don't try too hard.
