Interviewed Jun 2011 in New York, NY (took 3 weeks)
Although the process was long, you meet a lot of your management and hiring team along the way.
The first interview was basically a cattle call (literally like 50+ at each of the 2 open calls I have gone to) and small groups with 8-10 people. Basically a "chat" with one of the hiring managers/department managers/store managers. To be honest, here is where you are most judged on face value (i.e. your style, taste, fashion inspiration, what you're wearing that day). No mention of actual work experience. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR EMAIL! My first follow up email got stuck in my Junk mail so I missed my opportunity to take the "test"... luckily i got a 2nd chance and took it. Its not hard or particularly long...Just remember its A JOB, Urban may be laid back but the still want you to seem professional on paper.
Second interview was a week later. I met with the Store manager for about 20 mins talked about style inspiration, some mention of work experience, the "Why Urban?" question, etc. All about how you would work with customers and your style. I don't think you need a particular style like some say (like not everyone is a giant hipster) but you HAVE to have a strong style...if its retro, goth, hipster, whatever you have to show it...I would advise wearing something that reflects your style the most...even if it doesn't seem "professional"
Third interview (yes, there's more), was a meeting with the Women's Department Manager, and it was really "casual" they really push the "relaxed" vibe to get you to "be yourself" so be relaxed and funny and real. Tell stories whenever possible to show your personality. I disagree that you should be aloof and typical "hipster" persona...being excited about the job makes them want you so if you care ACT LIKE IT!
The fourth interview (last one I promise) was over the phone with the Store Manager again. Basically all business...asking about schedule conflicts, if you mind working certain hours, if you go to school, if so what is your schedule, do you mind staying late or coming early...blah blah blah. Then she offered me a job, which was AWESOME after all that work.
Overall, the company has several open interviews but don't think you can get hired right off the bat for wearing cool clothes. They only hired 5 people of the almost 100 people who showed up for the open call. Its going to take FOREVER to know if you even got it (lots and LOTS of interviews) so dont equate a second interview with a job offer. If you need immediate employment look somewhere else. On the other hand don't think you can't get far in the interview process without retail experience because I had NONE. Be personable and knowledgable of brands and your fashion inspirations. Don't be wishy washy, pick a style and go with it! be confident and you have a good chance.

I thought that the manager of the store was very accommodating... at least through the process. She allowed me to delay my start date by almost 2 months so I could handle other priorities. I have yet to start but i have gotten information about my training day already, 1 month in advance.

The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Personality Test.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Sacramento, CA (took a day)
The interview was held during their open job fair. The interview was very short, less than 5 minutes. I was very prepared for the interview but did not get a chance to sell myself. All the interviewer asked was why UO? Then ended the interview. I was dress appropriately. I know the company, obviously, that's why I want to work there. I understand that they are looking for people that fit into the culture, which I feel that I would, but just judging and not asking the interviewee questions regarding their experience is not cool.

They were kind of snobby but I was ready for that. I buy out the entire store frequently so I think I dressed and acted how they wanted so they were impressed.

im just going to tell you the truth group interviews are for people who dont have connections, and if you do go on a group interview its the worsed experience, close to 16 people on everyone of them, all of them trying way to hard, very easy to go unnoticed.

Interviewed May 2010 (took a day)
The interview process was very relaxed. It took place in the store and was a group interview. We talked about our fashion sense, personalities etc. It was like a small discussion, as long as you make sure that you're heard & you answer questions your fine. Also dressing the part was important.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I had originally sent in an application and my resume online, and then about a week later I got an email letting me know that they were having a job sales fair in about a month. That consisted of a group interview with two other people and two managers. They gave us all a slip to do an opinion survey and at the end was told that the hiring manager would later let me know. About four days after that, I received a phone call inviting me to a second interview, which was also a group with four others. I was told that they would be calling us to let us know. Got a call a week after asking me to join the company.
Any advice I can give is dress like the Urban crowd. I wore jeans, but they were a darker denim.

Interviewed May 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
The group interview was ok. The hiring manager was laid back, maybe a little laid back in which he seem uninterested or could care less as to what everyone was saying.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
After giving my application to a manager I was immediately pulled into an interview. I was asked the basic questions, where do I go to school, what hours I could work, etc. My interviewer asked how we'd handled shoplifters at my previous place of work (a small clothing boutique that was just launched and didn't have a shoplifting problem). I was told due to lack of work experience and the hours I requested it would be unlikely I'd have a shot but she would talk to her supervisor anyway. The whole time it just felt like the manager was trying to get it over with and didn't have a position available to begin with, which was discouraging from the beginning.
