Interviewed Jun 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2 days)
I have to say it was the best interview experience I ever had so far. The phone screen with the recruiter was just basic chat about the position followed by 2 very basic coding questions. The onsite consisted of a group of 8 people including the hiring manager. The people I met are very knowledgeable about what they do and are patient enough to give me time to respond to the coding questions. There were a couple of brain teaser questions but I pulled off ok. Lunch with the hiring manager at their Cafe was nice (but you have to pay for yourself:). I interviewed on Friday, an offer came in the next Monday. But the annoying thing is that the background check took almost a week to complete, it was a very deep check. I'd recommend check yourself before apply with VMware.

Negotiation Details
I was able to negotiate but not much. Mainly because the offer itself is a great package and the base is higher than what I am making now. I accepted the offer.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Skills Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed May 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2+ weeks)
2 Phone interviews followed by 4 onsite interviews. Onsite interviewers were not so professional and some of them did not even had a clue how to conduct interview. It was more like a one way communication.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview and a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Dec 2008 in Palo Alto, CA (took 4 days)
The company needs people with expertise in Computer Systems (i.e. Operating Systems and Computer Architecture). Preparation along those lines should serve you well in the interview.
C/C++ programming and algorithms skills are needed.
The interviews can be scheduled soon or later based on your preference. Do not hesitate to ask for time, if you feel the need.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took a day)
Some one from their HR called me up 3 times at least to schedule an interview time. I was partially flattered but I also noted that they were inefficient.
This was followed by just a normal phone interview with some problem solving activity. The interviewer was polite and the interview went off well.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Palo Alto, CA (took 4+ weeks)
I had a great rapport with the recruiter via phone and an excellent first interview with the hiring manager. The stakeholders I would be managing PR for were all very impressive except for one person in product management. He was rude, argumentative and unrealistic in what he expected for his PR program. He had outrageous expectations and proceeded to speak negatively about all of the people in the PR group that I was going to meet with next and who would've been my peers had I taken the job. My final meeting was with the hiring manager and that also went well. I called the recruiter the next day and promptly withdrew from the process because in the final interview with the hiring manager, I learned that the product manager that was so rude and combative was the person I would be doing the most work for/with. Such a shame things didn't work out.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I found out in the interview that the person who I would be working with the most was the person who was the rudest and most combative in the interview process. Only one rotton egg out of the whole bunch but that's all it took for me to withdraw from the process.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 2 months)
Interview pretty bad..... Seems like they are disorganzed as they were trying to outsource a main function of finance.. Also, interviews were extremely informal.. director drank soda during interview - manager wants to email candidate directly:-) It took them 1.5 mos. to figure out next steps. Show's amateur nature, disorganization of dept. Such manipulative tactics should not be used to recruit and hire talented professionals.. Glad I didn't work there....

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 3 days)
Phone screening by recruiter; scheduled for a full day of interviews with 7 team members. Interviewers were gracious. Each were certain to ask if I had any questions for them before ending their portion of the interview. The interviews were heavily technical in content, although there were also questions regarding soft skills. The second day of interviewing was scheduled with two senior staff. This interview was daunting. I was asked to solve puzzles and was given multiple technical 'quizzes'.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Palo Alto, CA (took 5 days)
They turned me down. Interviewers were highly condescending, and looking for specific answers. After they declined me, I got offers from Microsoft and Google, with a good salary / stock combo at each.
They should learn to treat interviewees with respect, and train their interviewers to judge better.
Based on interviewer's attitude, I wouldnt wanna work there anyways, even if they offered me a better salary.
