Interview Details –
Applied online, heard back a week or two later via email from NYS recruiter and was invited to first phone interview in January 2012. After the first phone interview, did not hear back for two months until email stating moved forward with other candidate.
Then nearly a year later, Dec. 2012, I applied online again for another location, immediately heard back via email again and asked for my availability for phone screening. I emailed back and called right away but since it was over the weekend, didnt hear back. Called again and emailed again, no response. However, two months later, the same recruiter emailed me back apologizing for the miscommunication, and invited me for second phone screening since I had completed the first one in January 2012. Held second phone screening, and she passed me on to instore interview with hiring manager.
In store, went to meet the hiring manager- who was busy and had me wait for nearly an hour. Then, he and the assistant manager took me into their office for an interview with nearly 10 pages of questions where he wrote down my answers on each page as I spoke. The assistant manager had to leave the interview half-way through to help on the floor, and the store manager continued interview and had me do a role-play as to how I would initiate a sale with a customer that just walked in. It was fun and a learning experience, as I havent done a direct-sales in person with commission goal before, but I passed it. He then said he didnt have anymore questions and would forward my answers to HR and I should hear back within a day or two.
I felt nervous, like I wasnt going to get it based on the last comment in the office, but as he walked me out of the store, he stopped to introduce me to a few employees in the back office area. Then, walked me to the door and I shook his hand, and he had a new body language that made me feel slightly more confident that he liked me as a candidate. Then about 4-5 hours later, I received a call from the North Carolina HR director who reconfirmed all of my info on my application and offered me a contingent offer of employment. It was such a relief to hear as she was very monotone so I wasnt sure how the call was going to go.
After I accepted the offer, I had to go online and fill out prehiring information and wait for First Advantage to complete my background check. Over the next 5-6 days, heard nothing but then got an email saying they needed more info about my current employer and asked me to upload W-2 and two recent paystubs for 2013. The online site they asked me to log in to and upload to didnt allow any uploads, or anything but comments to questions they asked like contact info for supervisor. I didnt have a working fax at the time so I called and told them the issue but they were closed for the weekend. I left a voicemail. On monday a rep called me and he fixed the website to allow the upload, and I also went to a friends house to fax the documents. I called him back to confirm he received the documents-- yes. Then 8 hours later, while I was out, I received an email from them again stating they needed more info for my current employer, but when I logged on the site again, it just said "thank you. No further action is required at this time". I called and left a message again, and he called me back the next day to confirm he had everything he needed from me. That night I emailed the HR Director to let her know what happened. She thanked me for my diligence in the first email, but later sent me another email stating they had no documentation attached to my file and requested that I email the documents to her directly. I had to scan the printouts I had from the fax, then save them to pdf and send to her via email off my phone. She never confirmed via email that she received them.
The next day, I received a call from her with another very monotone voice, but stating that everything had come through fine and I had the position and would start training the next week. I am suppose to be receiving a pretraining email that lets me know all of the training and hotel info, as I must travel a few hours away for a three week training session. The cool thing is that the company pays for the hotel and reimburses for mileage or other public transit of whatever kind up to the training facility, and reimburses a generous dollar amount per day for food. It took a lot of work to get the position, as I had applied numerous times over the past 4 years, but I finally got in. The pay is generous and the commission on top is a highlight. There may also be incentive/bonus pay, and an annual payout each February. I am excited to work for this company, and recommend that anyone who loves technology and helping people find a product or service to fit their communication needs in commission-based sales environment to apply to VZW.
Interview Question – Role playing as a sales rep and the hiring manager was pretending to be a customer who was not the slightest tech-saavy. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Unable to negotiate pay, as the application process states the starting pay is a non-negotiable $24, 000/yr. However, when I was on the phone, the recruiter told me that my area paid $25,000/yr. So that was a total PLUS!

I was brought in to an open house in New York City, I thought it was going to be a group interview, but it was about a dozen 1:1's at once. My interviewer was an asst manager, he was really nice, waited about 20 more minutes for an interview with HR. Went great, then I was contacted by HR in North Carolina offering me the job, and telling me about the background check. The background check started and they called me during the most inconvenient hours, during school, and they would call 4-10 times while I was in the midst of class. I was made to go to take a drug test, which I wasn't refunded for the transportation to get there.
I was called back a week later from an HR woman in Connecticut, asking me about a discrepancy on my application (there was an error with my dates on one of my jobs, but it was just an error). I was told she was going to call me back the next day and let me know. I waited all day, until 9PM at night, nervous at my wits end, thinking I was going to get this job. However she didn't call me until the following day and told me the offer was going to be rescinded because of the one discrepancy.
I can't believe how ridiculous the interview process is for this company. Even Apple (the richest company in the world) doesn't go as in depth. I had to take time out of my day and money out of my pocket to get things done and wasn't refunded. You would think you were applying for a seat in the US Senate. I will never be applying to the fascist company that is Verizon Wireless.

Interview Details – First interview was over the phone with a very nice recruiting manager somewhere in South Carolina, I believe. That interview led me to an interview with the hiring manager, in person. The hiring manager brought in two other people into the interview for additional feedback. I went fully prepared. Since it is a sales position, you have to make sure to ask for the job at the end of the interview. It is expected. So I did. Don't expect a commitment there. A phone call/email from the HR hiring manager followed. By the time you get to HR, you're almost in. You've been pre-approved by the hiring manager(s) and they are just making sure you pass the HR interview. You're asked the typical sales scenarios. Go into your successes. Make sure you know the technology. Ask real questions. Be yourself. The company likes that. Read their Credo. You may get interviewed by more than one hiring manager, depending on the openings. So, be patient. This is a good company, so hang in there. It is worth it, especially if you hit it off with your future manager.
Interview Question – I don't recall any difficult or unexpected questions. I went fully prepared. Make sure you read everything you can about Verizon Wireless, their history, their future plans. I went in 6 months before the implementation of LTE. I had read up on all that technology and its competition. When they asked me what that stood for and what it meant, I explained it the way I would have done to a customer. I cannot over stress, be prepared. If you love technology and mobility, and people, this is the right job. It's a great company with great career potential. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I'm a terrible salary negotiator. So, I can't give you advice on that. Usually these entry level sales jobs have one pre-set salary. You prove your worth in your performance and in your commission. Once you're in and prove yourself, then you can negotiate your way to the top as you get promoted into other positions. I mean that. I've seen it.

Interview Details – The process has not finished yet, but I have completed 2 phone interviews. The first one was to help narrow down candidates. The second one consisted of multiple behavioral questions and a presentation I was given 1 week to prepare.

Interview Details – I had 2 1:1 interviews. The 1st interview lasted about 30mins. I was asked questions about pass employment? What do I think of when I hear Verizon? What task did I learn at work or in school that I apply to everyday life? How do I deal with rude customers? Describe a time when a customer had a dispute about an item or service. The 2nd interview seemed repetitive from the first.

Interview Details – The overall process was smooth. I just interviewed yesterday, so it takes 7 - 10 days before I hear back if I will receive an offer or not. The company sends you two flyers - one describing what the job entails, benefits, and pay. The other describes what they represent.

Interview Details – It was really crowded as there were several other people interviewing as well. Hard to focus at times and the interviewer displayed no interest. I hoped I was interviewed by someone else. His demeanor made me nervous and I couldn't really open up as much. If you are interviewing, be confident in selling yourself and have extensive knowledge of some type of electronic product.
