Interviewed Apr 2012 in Chicago, IL (took 1+ week)
Pretty standard customer service/retail interview. I think I stood out because of my genuine interest in health/nutrition, so if you watch a couple of youtube videos on the importance of supplements, I think that may give you an edge. The asst manager and store manager interviewed me 1:1 in the stock room. There was no one else on staff which I hope translates into decent work hours. The interviewers were nice and one was a non-stop talker but interview personalities will obviously vary greatly from person to person and thats with any job at any level.
Other tips just make sure you do a little research on the company, I forgot about this but I winged it and did fine.

I think I could've gotten more but they went with what i put on my application, which was a just standard retail pay for my area. I'd been out of work for a while and unashamed to say I was a tad desperate. But I can't complain, its average.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 4 weeks)
They really dropped the ball on me, but not until the end. I started out applying online and then followed up and spoke to the assistant manager. Very nice person and the interview itself was pretty smooth and asked the basic interview questions. Then I followed up and they asked me back to interview a second time with the manager. Again, pretty basic questions and the interview went well, even the manager stated it went well and said he would get to me in the next week. After that everything fell apart. Never got a follow up call or email like he said and then when I followed up said he'd get back and then sent an email saying hang in there. Several weeks later, I emailed, no reply and now I hear they went with other candidates after I was the one to F/U. I just wish they were honest and professional, that's the part that was the biggest disappointment. To drop the ball like that, just speaks volumes on what I have read online, and I was willing to disregard all of it as disgusted employees. Here I wasn't even an employee and they showed me how disorganized they are. And honestly, you should give people the courtesy to F/U. I don't mind that they hired someone else, I just wish they were honest instead of ducking my emails and leading me on. Managers, I know you're busy but put yourself in my shoes, would you want to be treated this way?

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Pensacola, FL (took 2 weeks)
Apply Online, Then go into store dressed professionally to introduce yourself in person and let them know you applied online and are very interested. They will set up an in person interview with Assistant Manager or Manager first. The interview is all situational based questions, "Tell me about a time when...." If you make it past the first manager, then you may meet with another manager, and then finally the distract manager. The three step process is mainly for Management positions. Hourly associates can be hired by the store manager most of the time.

Negotiation Details
There is not much room for negotiation due to the company going public and now being all about keeping payroll low and sales high to show good profits for the share holders. I would say 50 cents is about the most you could negotiate.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 3 weeks)
I filled out the initial application online after seeing they were hiring. I got an immediate call back from the manager to come in for an interview. Someone else who was interviewing was late so mine didn't actually start until 20 minutes later. Typical customer service questions were asked. I had a second interview over the phone with another manager who told me I would forward in the process and speak with the district manager. For some reason, that did not happen. Personally, I don't understand why 3 interviews are even necessary for a Sales Associate position.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 2 weeks)
The interviewing process is very very long.
It starts with entering your application on the website. Then there is a phone interview and then a 1 on 1 interview.
You do have to pass a background check and they do require you to pass a drug test.
The interviewing they do is a little different than normal - it is very specific as to what questions they ask - and they keep asking until they get the answers they need.

Interviewed May 2010 in Holmdel, NJ (took a day)
Two store managers gave me an interview in a cramped stock room. They were very rude and to be quite honest, disinterested with even conducting an interview. After the interview I was told that I would receive a call in 1 week, I received no such call. The whole attitude of the managers and the way that they conducted their interview made me not want to follow through with the job offer.
Reason for Declining
I believe my application was declined, however, after my interview experience. I can say with confidence that even if the offer was extended to me, I would not have followed through.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 2 days)
It's not a hard company to interview for as an associate. You apply, get called in and usually meet with an assistant manager first. If not, it will be the store manager then the assistant. Questions are standard, such as "What is your customer/retail experience?" and others like "Describe a situation in which you had to help a difficult customer and how did it turn out?" I would go into the interview ready to explain specific examples, have a little knowledge of current health trends or products, and be aware that you will have to approach people like a car salesman initially. I worked for this company for years, after which I interviewed for GNC which is very similar in their questioning.

They have a pay scale, and the DM has a chart for management starting pay. They aren't too open to negotiating pay, unless you are going for store manager, and possible assistant. The DM provides little room for increases in what they suggest. I would negotiate a little more, but not too much unless you have the experience and feedback to back it up.

Interviewed Jan 2009 (took 3+ months)
Months after responding to a job ad, I was called by the District Manager who asked if I was interested in an interview. The interview took place at a hotel, where I was asked experience based questions. They want specific answers about specific actions your took in specific instances. Never say "I would" or else your answer is void. I did almost all of the talking. After that, I didn't hear back for a couple weeks so I called the DM back and asked if I was still a candidate. To my surprise, I was told that I was currently the ONLY candidate, and I would be doing a phone interview with the Regional Manager soon. After the phone interview, I met the Regional Manager and District Manager at a store, and was given an offer.
