    Environmental Consultant Interview

Anonymous Employee in Johannesburg (South Africa)
    Declined Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at WSP Environment & Energy (Johannesburg (South Africa)).

    Interview

I sent my CV to the person in charge of the department (I do not trust HR). They replied back with a suggestion of a date for the interview. The interview itself was very casual, they were super friendly, open and flexible. At the end they asked me to wait while their director arrived so he could met me straight. I was having a drink at the cafeteria and he came to meet me there. I was very impressed. The people seemed friendly and professional, I would have loved to work there.

    Interview Questions

    • They asked me for basic knowledge in technical and soft matter of the environmental fields. A bit of my background and interests. They explained the oportunities at the company and how the environmental unit works and how I could contribute to the team.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

They made me an offer; but before we could complete the process, the vacancy was cancelled. Tx top mgmt. 

    Graduate Consultant Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in London, England (UK)
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at WSP Environment & Energy (London, England (UK)) in April 2008.

    Interview

Submitted CV online. Invited to an assessment day which was held in a London hotel (this was during the height of the financial boom) and consisted of team-building exercise (not assessed), then group project which required assessing the environmental implications of a fictitious site (presented with other candidates). Finally a 1:1 interview with an Associate Director. Lasted less than 5 minutes (but having now worked with the guy) can understand why - he's quite relaxed. His interview questions were very informal (why WSP etc, something along those lines). A week later was invited to attend a second interview with an Associate Director of the business unit that I had applied for. Lasted approximately 1 hour and consisted of technical questions, discussion of my previous projects at university. Seperately, a HR recruiter asked me softer questions on personality etc.

    Interview Questions

    • A technical question on one of my projects (too specialist to divulge)   1 Answer

    Negotiation

Was offered £21,000 for working in London and with a Masters. Shocked at how low it was but emailed the Associate Director and requested more. Settled on £23,000 pa.
