They should put more into finding people that would be good at the job not just a body with how many people needs jobs they could get better workers if worked to keep and hire people willing to be clean hard workers. All they ask is when you could start working.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Siler City, NC (took a day)
The company is always ailing for new people, and at this particular store, the turnover rate is tremendous. They will accept anyone, as long as you're looking for work and you can work and fill in for people. There seems to be a lot of drama at this particular store, due to the quality of people that usually apply--anything from single parents and managers who cheated on their spouse and divorced to be with the other person. Those who seem to do the worst get the better promotions.

The managers were pretty laid back. I felt very nervous going into it since this is my first job but they made me feel comfortable about it all.

Interviewed May 2011 in Medina, OH (took 2 weeks)
The entire interview was very informal. I came in to Waffle House, and, after seeing a "NOW HIRING" sign in the window, decided to ask for an application. The handed me a piece of paper with a number on it, and asked me to complete a phone test. I called the number, and spoke to a generic phone representative that asked me really simple questions about myself and any government assistance I may have been receiving. At the end of the phone test, I was given a confirmation number, which I wrote down and brought back to Waffle House. I arrived during a slow time in the day, and spoke to a manager then and there because one was available. She quickly told me they would be happy to hire me, and told me they had to do a background check, and that she'd call me when it came back with the results.
A week later, I called them because I still hadn't heard anything. They told me they still hadn't sent the background check, but that they'd do it and get right on it.
Four days later I called them and asked if my background check had cleared, and they said they still hadn't heard back, but that they'd call me.
Two days after that, I received a call that was set up to schedule my training, which included watching a lot of videos and having the manager train me to cook.

Interviewed Dec 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Contacted Area People Director via e-mail and received a call about two days later. I was asked to and agreed to an interview on Thanksgiving Day. The interview consisted of a very informal meeting in one of their stores with the APD, Division Manager, and one other member of upper management. They explained all the perks of working at Waffle House, but also covered some of the sacrifices I would have to make which included working every holiday and most weekends. A few days later I was called by the APD asking me to come in for an in unit trial in which I would work for three days to get a feel for what would be required of me. The first day was ok, but i was't given very much direction, so I gravitated to bussing tables and chatting with customers. I also took a personality profile test and was informed by the APD that I would one day have a problem with relationships because I would tend to CHOOSE working over spending time with my spouse and children. He also told me that trait is exactly what they are looking for. After getting a copy of the profile to review myself, I realized he had mis-interpreted the results and I wasn't such a bad guy after all. I left the first day of the trial with a pretty negative overall feeling, but mustered the nerve to give Waffle House one more chance.
The second day, I came in at 7am and worked a day shift cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, and such. While doing these things, I came to realize that I was wasting my time, as I wasn't really having an opportunity to evaluate the position I was being interviewed for. I finished the shift at 2pm and was asked to return at 7pm so I could see how a shift and drawer change works. I came back and was immediately put to task cleaning the grill. Three hours later I was told I could go home, and I needed to return the next day at 6:30 am. All without ever seeing how a drawer change or shift change actually works.
I decided, after driving 2 hours back home to not return the next day. I felt that management had no real direction with what they needed to do to help me decide whether or not to join the company. I'm sure the company is fine, and I just stumbled into a bad situation, but there is no excuse for such poor organization when it comes to attempting to bring on new talent.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Kansas City, MO (took 5+ weeks)
I applied for the Area People Director postiion posted on the Society for Human Resources Management(SHRM). Two or three weeks later, I was contacted by the Area People Director Coordinator from Georgia who scheduled a 1:1. One week later, I was contacted by the Area People Director in Little Rock, Arkansas who scheduled a second 1:1. A week after that, I was scheduled for another 1:1 with a Vice President of Waffle House. The interview process also included an apptitude test, a personality assessment, a background check, a credit check, and a hair folicle drug screen. Waffle House is a debt free company that has been in business for over 50 years. They are growing beyond their predominantly southern footprint.

Negotiation Details
I was surprised that the compensation consisted of 50% base and 50% bonus (at risk). Also, the position was offered to me as an HR Manager not as a APD. The reason they gave for the lesser job was due to the number of restaurants (units).
