Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 4 days)
First you apply on-line, then months later you get a call and they conduct a phone interview. If all goes well you then are asked to come in where about 8 people are going for the same job. They make you watch some videos on the company. Then they do this speed questioning session where they bring in one manager per person. They ask random questions like why you want this job and questions on how you would handle different situations dealing with customers and other employees. You do some sales presentations and role playing. Then if you are lucky they call within a day and ask for you to come in and this is where they talk about how much they are going to pay you. After this process you have 2 days of orientation with a big group of people. You play games and do a section of things where you need to find where the keep things, introduces yourself to other employees, and these employees have no clue as why you are doing this. Then they tell you to go find your Boss and get some hours for training. (They don't even introduce you to the one who is in charge of you. Then with being a cashier you actually have two people who don't seem to be on the same wavelenght that can give you hours. (Poor Communication) Later when you come in for training if your lucky you get someone who cares and knows there job well. My first session I had a really great cashier, but after that I had a cashier who just left me and didn't even stay on cash with me. Even though I have a lot of years experience as a cashier, there is other stuff that comes up around the store that was unfamiliar to me.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Scarborough, ON (Canada) (took 1 week)
Applied online on the company's website, completed application test which consisted of around 80 questions. Got a call after few weeks from a department manager for a phone interview where they asked questions like your current job, availability and five to six behaviour/situation based questions and then was asked to go in for a group interview at the end of the call. Group interview was with 5 other candidates. The first section is the introduction where we had to introduce the person to our right so we were given some time to get information about the person we were going to introduce, after this we were asked to team up with another person and each group were given an item and we had to come up with the information/characteristics of the product that will help sell them to the prospective buyer(they are looking for communication skills so no need to exaggerate anything). After this, we were asked to continue with the same group and were given scenarios that we might encounter as an employee and were asked to discuss about the matter/situation and what we would do if we were in such situation. The next round is the speed dating part where we were asked to sit face to face with a dept manager(so six managers vs. six candidates) and were asked one question that we have 90secs to answer, after 90 secs we move to the right and this continue till we complete a full circle and then one more round of those(total 12 questions). This marked the end of the group interview and we were told that we would be contacted within 2 business days about the outcome. Got the call next day and was asked to go in with 2 pieces of ID, went in and gave two pieces of ID and filled in and signed a form for the background check and was asked to give 3 references, asked to go to a separate room to talk to the store Manager about the job offer and salary negotiation. was told to go back for orientation and training. Not all candidates were selected at the end of the whole process, it's really important to perform well in the group interview and they respect individuality so just be yourself.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Brampton, ON (Canada) (took a day)
I walked into the store and saw a manager. I told the manager I was looking for a job and that I was interested in working for Wal-Mart. He took down my number and called me an hour later for an interview. After the first, there were two more with two other managers. Few days later I got a call asking if I was still interested in working for Walmart and I accepted.

Interviewed Nov 2009 (took 1 week)
First, after getting your application the human resources department will check all your references. Then they call you in for an interview, you wait around for a long time for one of the managers to come and see you. They do a follow-up interview a few days later, and if you agree, you sign your wage statement in the second interview. Smile, be polite and make good eye contact.

Interviewed Nov 2008 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took a day)
The interview process was fairly simple. They ask you some behavioural questions about situations involving problem scenerios. The whole point is to determine if you are a team player and how well you deal under pressure. They ask you a lot of other typical questions like why do you want to work here? what are the hours you are looking to work. If you are fairly confident and can solve problems easily it is easy to get this job

There is no negotiations in price you get minimum wage and if you want a higher salary you'd have to have a lot of experience to show for it, but even then they would just higher someone else who will take lower pay to do the job. So my advice is to just take the job otherwise you could lose it.
