Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 6+ weeks)
I applied, I got a call back a week later, set up an interview date and time. I got there, no one knew i was supposed to be there, finally got a hold of who was supposed to be interviewing me. Go through first interview and pass. Interview consisted of going over pre-filled forms, doing one on one "tell me a time when you had to do such and such and tell me how you achieved your goal" etc. lasted about 30 minutes. a couple days later i got a call to another interview. Went in, once again I had to hunt down the guy who was supposed to interview me. Not even two or three minutes in, very abruptly he ends the interview and says he will be in contact with me.
a month goes by, during which I am calling the store three or four times a week. Finally went up there and demanded to know what happened (was expecting interview 3) lady says the computer has no record of me ever having the interview #2!! the guy who interviewed me pretty much blew me off and didn't put anything in the computer!

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Raleigh, NC (took 3 days)
In my case it was an internal interview (I already worked for the company), however the questions are the same for internal/external interviewees. There are about 5 questions ranging over 5 competencies (1 Question per area). The questions are designed to show thought in your decision making as well as clear leadership. The panel interview will be either 2 or 3 managers, usually store managers sometimes shift managers. There really isn't anything too complicated about the process, and usually if they've called you for an interview, the actual interview is just a formality-provided you don't absolutely tank it. It's mainly about getting the call asking if you wish to interview.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Concord, NH (took 2 weeks)
I initially had to have a phone interview with the Asset Protection Coordinator, then I had to meet him for a face to face interview, then I had to have a second interview with him and another member of management, and then I had to have an orientation meeting with Human Resources. After that I had to go through three months of training and then was finally able to start.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in O Fallon, IL (took a day)
This was an informational interview that gave a great insight into the process used by Walmart HR to hire people into the managerial training program. The HR manager with whom I conversed was very friendly and informative. My overall impression is that this is a company that would be a good fit for someone who enjoys a structured corporate culture, would like an introduction into retail, and is flexible on location.

There was no pay negotiation. Apparently they hire based on base pay within category and not experience. You can negotiate scheduling.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took a day)
I did a phone Interview were they asked approximately 10 questions based on a STAR interview method. Then during the interview it was mentioned that I had a child. At the end of the interview after ending the call, I pick up the receiver and could hear the interviewer along with the Store Manager who was listening on the ionterview discussing the fact that I had a child at home, so even though the interview went well they would rather choose a guy they had interviewed earlier. I was mad because they did not asked about my child's age, or if it would have been an issue with flexibility.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Put in for position and received an email for phone interview. The phone interview lasts about an hour and you are asked to tell a bit about yourself. The questions asked require you to give an example of a situation, with a resolution using the STAR method (Situation,Task,Action you took, and Result).
They use questions from the competencies such as judgment, customer centered, execution and results, planning and improvement, influence and communicate, ethics and compliance, adaptability, and talent.
One question was describe a business change HR process that you played a major role in.
Describe an important law situation that required your immediate attention and action.
Didn't get a second interview due to other candidates had doctorate degree and I had only a Masters.
