Interviewed Jun 2010 in Centereach, NY (took a day)
I filled out an application online and was called back yesterday, two weeks later. Today I went to the store and waited 45 minutes for a woman to call me into the back behind Site-to-Store, past huge shelves full of boxes, past what seemed like a hundred employees and into a back room where two associates with headsets were seated at computers and one important-looking woman was sitting at a desk. She greeted me without standing and I took a seat. She explained the positions available, asked if I was interested and informed me that 205 applicants were interviewing for 2 positions. The interview seemed very routine and not personal at all. My interview lasted no longer than 5 minutes. It concluded with "if we need you, we'll call you in for a second interview."

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Winona, MN (took 2 days)
The interview was fairly easy, you get interviewed by a supervisor at first and then by an assistant manager. They ask you questions about safety and work ethic and its fairly easy, and almost anywhere you apply for.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in New Hartford, NY (took a day)
I was called and spoke to them and was told to come in for an interview. I go to the customer service desk, and they had no idea why I was there, and i was sent to another section of the store. After waiting for 20 mins, someone finally came and said hello. I was escorted to the back into a break room, where I was put in front of 3 managers. I went threw the basics of filling out paperwork and asking basic questions. Then it got to the strange part. I was grilled on random questions that had absolutely nothing to do with what was going on. They kept switching between two managers who was asking the questions, one of them clearly was told to make Eye contact with the applicant, because thats all he did, he asked the question and then stared at me, until i completely finished the answer. The other one seemed confused on where he was in the packet. I was sent out and told they will get back to me with an answer, and then brought back because they skipped 3 pages of questions. All and all it was about 30-40 questions and in the end I was told im not "Overnight Grocery" material. (Mind you I have worked for 2 other retail places in my life, the last of which I was a manager, but somehow I did not have the ability to put bananas in the correct locations overnight) I was very turned off by the interview, it was not friendly it was like a firing squad with none of the management showing the ability to sway from the questions, there was no small talk, no personal questions, just reading from cue cards and giving a nominal score. If your going there for a job, be ready to answer an HUGE amount of questions.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took 2 weeks)
After putting in an application online, I was contacted a week later and set up for an interview. I attended the interview. I was interviewed by 2 different people, first an associate, then a member of management. The associate's questions were relatively easy, all asking about past experiences that might pertain to a work environment. For example, a time when I didn't get along with another person, how did I deal with my responsibilities while trying to maintain a friendly environment. After the associates interviews you, a member of management will have questions that are pretty much the same, but more specific. These are definitely harder because they require you, on the spot to think pretty hard. After my interview, I was giving 24 hours to piss in a cup at the local hospital. A week later, I was called in for orientation.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Hattiesburg, MS (took a day)
The interview was with the assistant manager and two other people. I had to sign some papers and then they all came in and asked questions. Every question asked has to do with your past experience. Every question they ask begins with "Describe a time...". So this is an interview that you will need to prepare for, because unless you have a lot of experience and can answer situational questions quickly, you might end up freezing on a couple of questions, which is never good. So make sure you study up before your Wal-Mart interview.
I'm writing this a little early. I haven't received a call back for the second interview yet but they said it could be a week.
