I applied online - interviewed at Walmart in February 2014.
Interview Details – I'm still waiting to hear the result from my interview, but so far the interview was pretty easy. I was only interviewed by Human Resources and the way she described the hiring process is that there is only one interview for the job if you're qualified. I was only asked 3 questions of "name a time when...." after that she talked about what the company is looking for.
Interview Question – I was asked "name a time when you used your judgement on a decision without going to your superior? What was the results?" Answer Question
I applied online and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Walmart in August 2010.
Interview Details – I applied online for the job, 3 months later I got a call from my references saying that they were contacted by walmart, and shortly after getting off the phone walmart called me to set up an interview.
The interview process is very easy. You typically have 2-3 interviews in quick succession. You meet with a supervisor and answer a few basic personality questions. You then meet with a assistant manager and continue with basic behavioral questions. Then you move on to a co-manager or store manager for final approval.
The interview process was a very amateur operation. The supervisor that interviewed me hardly cared about the answers, she just marked everything off as passing. The assistant manager that interviewed me had a hard time reading the questions. Yes, you read that right, the MANAGER could barely read English. Lastly the co manager interview was literally 5 mins, he barely said anything for he seemed to have better things to do.
All in all.... nothing to worry about.
Interview Question – What was a time you let someone down and how did you fix it? View Answer
Negotiation Details – Absolutely no negotiation. You are given a hourly rate and you either take it or leave it.
I applied in-person and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Walmart in July 2012.
Interview Details – Did the application in-store; took about 45 minutes. I got a call a few days later to schedule an interview for a few days later. Once I got there I waited a bit in the site to store pickup before being called back. 3 managers interview you at one time while asking you standard interview questions: Difficult situations you've been in and how you handled it etc. After that they said they'd call me in a few days once they've interviewed the other applicants.
After about 2.5 weeks I finally got a call for a second interview. They asked me to bring 2 forms of ID. I got there and waited an hour because they forgot about me. Once back there I basically went through the same process again. They then asked for my Identification, asked me if I wanted the job, showed me my salary, and sent me for a drug test.
I had to come in for orientation a couple of days later on Thursday (their pay day) which began my first day there. You train by reviewing videos and then doing assessments on the PC. Once you feel confident they'll send you out on the floor to work with a "veteran" cashier. After learning you can request your login number and id which will grant you access to your own register.
Interview Question – None Answer Question
Negotiation Details – The HR manager informs you they pay over minimum wage and shows you your base rate. It is up to you to then accept or decline.
