Interviewed May 2012 in Ashland, KY (took 4 weeks)
Internal interview of an Assistant Manager. Started with phone call to set up phone interview, completed the next day. One week later, got email to set up for second interview- again on the phone. Both interviews consisted of the same type of situational questions- tell me about a time... Another week later, got an email to set up a store tour in the area. Tour was three 20 minute area tours followed by a 10 minute "pitch" of myself and a review of my performance- which was BRUTAL! They were unflinchingly honest of my tour- good and bad. Another week later, got a phone call offering the position- accepted. Everyone was very friendly and bled Walmart culture- very "respect for the individual" but also a very corporate atmosphere. Unprofessional in terms of store managers kept answering their text messages and didn't silence their phones in respect of my "pitch" time. One even texted through a majority of my tour. Left the interview feeling very unsure of what would happen and almost regretting my decision to apply. Actual first two interviews fairly easy. 3rd interview brutal.

Situational interview where they give you a scenario and you have to tell them what you would do given a specific situation. It was 5 or six scenarios with a specific issue you have to address in each scenario. Very similar to the interviews given to people hired for entry level positions in the stores only from the supervisory point of view.

Fill out questionnaire, interview with one of 12 managers - no privacy - 20 + job seekers in room at same time. Dress appropriately, be clean.
Best quality: always on time or likes to interact with customers
Worse quality: like to interact with customers which can be distracting but I always work hard to make sure I do not get behind in my job
Advice: Smile, be polite and interested in Company.
You will have to answer many questions and one that most people seem to get wrong: Which of the two is worse: alcohol or marijuana - answer: marijuana because it is illegal
Most questions are common sense so take your time and answer truthfully because they will check. If you do drugs other than those that are prescribed by a physician, don't even bother to apply at Wal-Mart because they did a drug test after our interview. If you take prescribed medicine, let your interviewer know and the reason you take them. You may have to assure them that it does not interfere with your job performance or that you will not take them while working.

Interview was set up for a week later by phone and when I was finally called, the interviewer sounded very old or tired. Seemed like it was all I could do to stay awake listening to her ask questions. Pretty funny I thought but as the saying goes; That's Wallmart for you! Basic STAR questions and then no response.

the quesitions were easy to answer and felt good afterwards. there were 2 interviews: store manager interview consisted of walking the store to give positive/negative critique; i had a phone interview with the market manager. i didnt feel intimadiated or rushed through the whole process. it was a good experience.
