Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Augusta, ME Jul 2012 – Reviewed Nov 11, 2012
Interview Details – It's all political bs if you aren't already an employee, they just asked ridiculous meaningless questions. Nothing that gauges your ability to handle work related responsibilities. Several times during the interviews (yes, they made me drive 40 miles to their head walmart of the state twice just for formalities) they stated that they 'tend' to hire management from within.
Interview Question – The most unexpected question was asked at the panel part of the interviewing process. They asked me to describe what my job description may be if I were to be hired. This was in the second interview. During the first interview I asked them the same question, their reply was "We are not at liberty to discuss that with you as of yet.". Answer Question
Negotiation Details – There is no negotiation. They offer and you accept, or you refuse / negotiate and you are not hired. There is no professionalism to negotiations.

No Offer – Interviewed in McAllen, TX Sep 2008 – Reviewed May 23, 2012
Interview Details – If you are not contacted after applying, you must call the HR dept. again and again until they ask you to come in. Seems excessive but with the volume of applicants at times you need to "push" yourself ahead in the selection process. When you come in you will usually be interviewed by the area manager of the position your applied for. Make sure you mention previous retail or specific knowledge of the area your going for because your pay increases based on experience. Once you go in for the interview, they have more than likely already determined your pay rate and you will have to be approved by upper management if it's going to increase. The personnel office is usually a medium sized room with a row of computers for computer based learning (CBL's) for new hires. Expect to have people doing CBL's and random associates and management going in and out of the area during your interview, unless the interviewer has asked that no one enter the office and that rarely happens. The interviewer reads a sheet of stale predetermined outdated questions and they rate each one depending on what you say. Allot of "what would you do" and "john has a problem.....what would you do?" kind of questions. Honestly as a interviewer myself, for new stores especially we would hire an individual no matter how the interview went merely based on the immediate need for more associates.
Interview Questions
No Offer – Interviewed in Aurora, CO Apr 2012 – Reviewed Apr 26, 2012
Interview Details – The online application was very vague, mostly employment interests and past job titles/salaries. No providing of skills/experience. I was surprised by a return phone call. The interview was 3 one-on-one meetings, with successively more important personnel. Questions were entirely canned "tell me about a situation where you..."
Interview Question – Tell me about a situation where you had to solve a problem with multiple possible solutions, and how you decided on your specific course of action. Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Raleigh, NC Jan 2012 – Reviewed Mar 1, 2012
Interview Details – applied online. Received a call about 1 week later for a interview. had a interview with the front end manager and a training manager. They asked about 5 questions...the manager walked me to the front and showed me what a csm does. she took me to the back and told me to make sure my references were correct because she will call them. told me she had to send me home because she had another interview and told me that she will let me know something later. 10 minutes after i left the interview the manager called me and offered me the job.
Interview Question – basic "describe a time" questions Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Wichita, KS Aug 2011 – Reviewed Aug 22, 2011
Interview Details – Meet with the Assistant Manager first who immediately recommneded a second interview with the Store Manager. Relaxed atmosphere but proper dress attire is recommended. If jeans are worn they should be pressed along with a nice shirt or blouse. Refrain from wearing shorts, wrinkled, or questionable clothing. Was pretty much hired on the spot and the job offer was officially extended after the successful completion of the background and drug test which "MUST" be done within 24 hours.
Interview Question – Primarily they were behavioral questions? View Answer
Negotiation Details – Not a lot of rooms for negotiation but pay increases were offered based on prior work history. The benefits make up the difference for the lost in pay. Also, if you are fortunate to work close to home not having to spend extra money on gas and lunch is worth at least $2 to $3 an hour. Despite what people say Wal-Mart is a great company to work for and the opportunities come quickly if you are willing to apply yourself. Just like any other job you must work hard and be dedicated if you expect to be rewarded.
