Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 7 weeks)
A detailed questioning interview from the territory trainer and territory manager. It was then that the decision was made whether or not you would be sent to a four day, three night intensive training session that was interactive and your performance as a potential leader evaluated.
You have to be, in most cases, a receptionist first, before you can be considered for a Leader position if so desired.
The higher ups are all concerned about keeping their jobs. The better your continued performance in the meetings rooms with the members and KEEPING members coming week after week, the better they look to their district managers, and so on up to the top.
It has become all about the"numbers" and statistics in spite of the failing economy. If you don't "keep" your members, then it is the Leader's fault. Product sales are important and we make a 5% commission of products sold for each meeting. We, the Leaders, care a great deal about our members journey to a lasting, and healthy weight loss. The members would be shocked at our very low pay. We spend a good deal of time preparing for our meetings based on our meeting guides. Directives, communication and the banking of the meeting room cash taken in, and the mailing in of our meetings room results and checks to the company have to be done within 24 hours of the meeting, We do not get paid for any of this. We get paid per meeting done. The more people (members) attending your meeting the more you can make. There is an $18.00 to $20.00 meeting room minimum depending on what part of the country you work in.
Our service vision to our members is huge, which is great, but employees are not compensated nearly enough.
Everyone that works for the company has lost weight with W.W.'s and is a Lifetime member at goal weight.
We weigh-in once a month and are supposed to be within two pounds of our goal weight. That is fair. We are role models for our members. Most leaders love their members. Many of us do this work because we care about people and helping them go through the journey successfully as we have. The company likes talent and people have to be very comfortable conducting and leading a meeting which is the cornerstone of
our most excellent program. We are constantly updated with mandatory training at minimum wage.
The stock holders of W.W.'s make money but we who are in the trenches dealing one-on-one with the members on a weekly basis are making as little as the company can get away with paying us. The position of a W.W. Leader has been described as two-steps above volunteering.
