I did not think clearly and said "what spare time? When I do have spare time I work on self improvement...." Acting like you are too busy to have spare time probably does not make you look the opposite of lazy, I'd guess they think it means you cannot prioritize your life, and accordingly your work. So sound like your life is run according to plan.
