The hour hand moves 360 degrees every 12 hours. at 5:15, its angle is (5 + 15/60) * 360/12 = 157.5 degrees.
The minute hand moves 360 degrees each 60 minutes, so at 15 minutes past the hour it has moved 15/60 * 360 = 90 degrees.
Thus, the difference between the two hands is 157.5 - 90 = 67.5 degrees.

60 degrees because at 5:15 the minute hand is on the three and the hour hand is on the 5. 360/12=30*(5-3)=60 degrees.

scratch that. dude above me is right. i forgot that since it's 15 after the hour hand won't be on the 5 but slightly past it.
