Well, I had a terrible experience with a senior leader a few years ago who requested that I conduct a literature review that was ridiculously broad. I expressed my reservations and suggested narrowing further. I was somewhat successful when my boss's boss stepped in to help refine the topic somewhat. Once we narrowed the topic a bit, we were still unsuccessful in convincing the senior leader (who knew little of the topic).
