Cashier at Whole Foods

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY – Reviewed May 22, 2013 New

Interview Details – I applied online on the company website. Two days late I received a call from an employee, on that call they immediately gave me a phone interview. They asked me what I do at my current job, why I want to work at whole foods, and what does customer service mean to me. At the end of the interview the interviewer advised me to find out more information about the company and invited me to a group interview. The group interview was at the end of that week and it was an intense two hour process. There was about 40 people in the groups. They had each of us answer four Introductory questions about our self. Name, favorite food/activity related to food, why do you want to work at whole foods as opposed to other retailers, why now, and what's your position. (At this point you have to try your best to stand out amongst the others so say something memorable) . After that they made us get into groups. In the the first group presentation we had to describe what customer service meant to us, describe a time when we received bad customer service, and give examples of poor customer service and present it to the class in the group. In the second group presentation we were given a list of the companies core values, We had to pick a value and creates a 30 second commercial for that value and a slogan. After that we were told we would get a call back within the next week if they were interested, I did get a call back and I'm awaiting my interview later on this week, I am very confident that I will receive the job because I am l l know a lot of information about the company and I have years of cash handling experience

Front End Team Member at Whole Foods

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Birmingham, AL – Reviewed May 12, 2013 New

Interview Details – They called me first, then I drove over for the interview. The interview is conducted sitting in the booths at the front end of the store. This can be very nerve-wracking if you were hoping for a quiet, distraction-free interview environment, but perhaps they're trying to assess your ability to handle the activity of the store. If that interview is successful, they'll call you a few days to a week later to interview with the next-higher-up manager. If this is successful, they'll usually offer you the job on the spot, or tell you that they wish to hire you but you must first interview with the store manager.

Interview Question – "When have you ever had to deal with an uncomfortable situation on the job and how did you handle it?" I was frank and told them about a harassment incident and the store manager seemed impressed with how I handled things, so don't be afraid to give a real example. Or you could just fabricate, it's not like they will call your old boss and say "Hey did you really scream at/punch/stalk/steal from XX employee four years ago?"   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I decided to take a work-study job instead. The traffic to the Whole Foods store was abhorrent, and I was told by two different friends who work there that WF will write you up for being late even if they schedule you to be there during the worst rush-hour times when traffic is at a standstill.

Currently going through a background check, then start training.

Marketing Supervisor at Whole Foods

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Apr 26, 2013

Interview Details – Had one in-person interview that lasted 20-25 minutes, got called the next day to schedule a phone panel interview. The phone interview was with the STL, ASTLs, and one of the metro coordinators. Did my research on here and so was well prepared to speak to core values. Definitely worthwhile to spend lots of time on the website learning about quality standards, programs, and values - not just familiarizing myself with them but also being able to articulate them back to the panel. The call was about 45 minutes (would have been shorter but I had questions to ask, too!) Got a call the next day saying that I got the job.

Interview Question – What are you afraid of?   Answer Question

Cut Fruit Supervisor at Whole Foods

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Apr 16, 2013

Interview Details – I called the store after seeing the job position online. I wanted to know who I should address my cover letter to. After speaking to the produce ATL, I received a follow up call to schedule an interview. I made sure to emphasize my past supervisory experience as well as my knowledge of Whole Foods values and culture. I would absolutely make sure to peruse the Whole Foods website and incorporate the core values into your interview. Personal contact with team members and leadership is a bonus before you interview. I think that they are looking for people who embody the mission, values and job description. Your education is not going to be the first thing they look for, so if you, like me, have an advanced degree, it may not be a good idea to count on that giving you a leg up. Core values ftw.

Interview Question – Asking me how I handle disciplinary problems. I should have know it was a shadow of things to come.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I was offered the job literally five minutes after the interview. I was barely out of the parking lot.
