Client Manager at Willis Group Holdings

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Charlotte, NC Apr 2008 – Reviewed Mar 26, 2009

Interview Details – A friend of mine told me that their was an opening in her office, so I gave the hiring manager a call. We chatted briefly and a meeting was arranged shortly thereafter. and gave him a call expressing interest in the position open. The position I was applying for was basically the same as what I was I was doing for another company, so that took a lot of pressure off. Also, I had worked for the company I was interested in before, so I was familiar with them and their corporate culture. The first interview was over lunch. I met with both parties I would be working with. Even though we were sizing each other up, it was not an intimidating meeting and we got along well. I immediately liked the team leaders because they were "straight shooters," and it's important to me to work with people of integrity. The second interview was with the two team leaders and one other person, a business unit manager, whose judgment they trusted. The BUM explained the "nuts and bolts" of the position's responsibilities, along with the available systems in use. I was able to ask real specific questions about the position, which the team leads would not have been able to address. The office was smaller than the one I was coming from, but it was still a nice work environment and everyone seemed busy, but not stressed out.

Interview Question – There were no unexpected or difficult interview questions, at least nothing that I can remember now.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Salary, vacation time.

Human Capitol Practice Consultant at Willis Group Holdings

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Sep 2012 – Reviewed Sep 23, 2012

Interview Details – A recruiter worked with me extensively learning my background and diving deep into my experience and skills. I spent nearly 4-5 hours on the phone with her, following which she passed on the results of our interviews and conversations with the hiring manager. Having the recruiter as an advocate helped the process and made subsequent interviews more focused on the position and my fit with the group rather than my basic skills.

My initial interview with the hiring manager was via Skype from the manager's home, which was a great way to meet and talk rather than just by phone or having to take several days to fly into the office. Willis does not have the ability to Skype within the office, so I was impressed the manager took time early in her day to set the call up from home.

Following that interview I spoke with her manager via phone. This interview touched on some of my more relevant experiences for the position but again looked at fit within the group primarily.

The final step in the interview was a skills exercise, where I actually produced a sample document for the group so they could see my skills "in action." I received an offer the next day. The process was efficient, professional, and focused on the key elements the group needed for their team.

Interview Question – Most of the questions were behavioral interview questions ("describe a time when you..."). The document exercise was unexpected, but gave me a chance to show my expertise, rather than just talk about it. I thought it a wise move on the part of the practice manager.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – The offer came in at the level I had expected, so I did not negotiate aggressively.
