I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Xstrata.
Interview Details –
I emailed my resumé for the intern position online a day before the deadline. Two days later I get a call in the early morning by HR expressing their interest for an interview. A 3-way phone interview between the HR and head geologist was scheduled. The geologist asked most of the questions, and they were all run the mill typical interview questions that you could tell he was reading off, no technical questions relating to the field. Questions such as: What do you know about Xstrata? What are your weaknesses/qualities/skills? Why did you chose this field? Tell me about a time where you expressed safety concerns/handled seemingly impossible deadlines/and other task oriented questions.
The whole process was conducted in French, and although they realised at the beginning of the interview that I had graduated and that they were specifically looking for students still in school for interships/co-ops, they interviewed me nonetheless. The interview lasted 30 minutes.
