Interviewed Nov 2009 in New York, NY (took a day)
The interview process I would say was very behavioral. Some of the questions that were asked past experiences about certain situations that happened while working at previous positions that I have held that were similar to the position I was applying for. Other's were in the group were asked similar questions. The interview was about an hour long.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Port Chester, NY (took a day)
Talking to the interviewer felt comfortable since everyone was there for the same thing. Some people were more laid back then others which gave me an advantage to express my interest in the position. The Interview asked questions like "why do you want to work with YAI?" and how I would handle certain decision making with situations that were given to me.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Brooklyn, NY (took 1+ week)
I applied using YAI's web site and was called in for a group interview on a Saturday. I was also asked to fill out their application form, which was very basic and just asked for my former employers, skills, and availability. When I arrived, I was directed to a large conference room filled with other applicants. We were called in groups of four or five to different rooms for group interviews.
The interviewer first asked us general questions about our attitudes toward developmentally disabled people. The topic then shifted to possible scenarios involving resident conduct at a group home. After that, we were interviewed one-on-one by the same interviewer, who asked me some perfunctory questions about why I wanted the job and what my availability was.
A few days later, a supervisor at one of YAI's day centers in Brooklyn called me in for an interview. The interview was over an hour long and involved multiple questions about my previous work experience, life challenges, attitudes toward the disabled, and personality. It also involved minor roleplaying. In the same interview, I was asked to come back and spend a day working at the day center to see how I performed and how well I fit in.
On the day I came in to work at the center, I was sent to a community volunteer site with one of the employees and a group of developmentally disabled people. The employee reported to the supervisor at the end of the day, and I was called into the supervisor's office and offered a job.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
Three weeks after applying, I was called by a HR with an interview date and location. The first part was a group interview. tips_ Make sure you research the company and key points about people with MD.DD & ID. Its good to know the services they provide and the different stages of disabilities (mild to severe). They ask "what would you do questions" keep in mind that the individuals are adults and have the same rights as you and I. The next part was the one on one interview. Its not so bad because they have already know if they are hiring you or not. They discuss availability and salary. I hope this helps.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Bayside, NY (took 1+ week)
Tricky YAI!
1) They try to show you the supply of labor is much greater than the demand for labor by group interviewing 80 people at the same time and at the same place on 06/30/2011 at 4 PM-8 PM.
Address: 211-11 Northern Blvd. Bayside, NY 11361
2) They intertview people with Masters and Bachelors degree to pay $12 dolloars an hour for directcare positions that will help their ID and DD population to bath, dress and groom highschool dropouts can do.
3) They make you fillout 4 pages of application form before you go to them, 4 pages of jobfair registration form when you are waiting to be interviewed and finally they will trick you to fillout and sign another 3 pages of document that will change what you applied for and offering you a $12 Dollars an hour job with your Masters degree and more than 10 years of social service experience in the same industry.
4) Most of the candidates were more educated than the YAI staffs who were interviewing us.
5) What YAI is basically lookig for is people who can watch, dress, bath and transport their residents but they don't tell you that when they call you for an interview after they reviewed your resume with aMasters and Bachelors level of education and experience.

Interviewed Dec 2009 (took a day)
I was contacted after submitting my resume by someone from the human resource department to schedule an interview the next day. I was inform that it will be a group interview. Later an email was sent to me with instructions. I research the company that night and filled out their application. When i arrived, there were about 6 other candidates (some with their Masters and Bachelors). The panel interviewee initiates the interview by introducing themselves (make sure you remember their name because they do ask you for it in the end). Then, they ask you to introduce yourselves (make sure you prepare this the night before of a good introduction for yourself). They precede with the interview by asking you questions (not you in general but every candidates as a whole) about the company. Then they ask scenario questions (my advice for those questions is to remember that these people (with DD) have rights and they should be treated fairly and with respect no matter the situation; Never violate their rights. After the group interview is over, they ask you to feel out additional paper work. Candidates that completes the additional paper work are called for a one on one interview with someone from the panel. During that time they will explained to you the process after the first interview. I've never made it to the second interview, but the company seems like a good place to work. The interviews are competitive, so make sure you are prepared. Take precaution answering the scenario questions. Hope this help!!!
