Interviewed Jul 2010 in San Diego, CA (took a day)
this was an unusual interview since a group of people were selected to be interviewed together. had never had this happen before. About 12 people were taken into a room where a presentation took place and then groups of 3 people were placed to be interviewed by different staff. after the staff asked questions to each person in the 3 person group, another staff came into our group to ask questions. this was too informal and it felt like you could not say everything you wanted to say. this interview took 2 hours. the staff interviewing the group said they will take questions after a presentation/group singing took place but they never got to it and instead took the rest of the time to finish up asking questions. by the way, the questions had to be repeated since after two people answered the question one would forget the original questions. this made me look like an idiot for trying to ask to repeat the question. I knew the YMCA was bad, but not this bad.

Interviewed May 2008 (took a day)
I recieved a phone call from Amber Tippett, she asked me varied questions about children and why I would like to work with them, how I take responsiblity for kids, how to keep them safe, etc. etc. Also what my expirence working with children was. In the end it just came down to why I wanted the job and if she liked me or not.

Interviewed Jun 2010 (took 2 weeks)
Hiring manager was very eager to get someone on board. When her assistant contacted me, I was very suprised as to the amount of information she was willing to give me, such as how many candidates they had narrowed it down to as well as sent me a copy of the full job description and the Branch strategic plan to help prepare for the interview.
They had narrowed the field down to 2 candidates and 1 round of interviews. The interview panel was very nice and non- intimidating, especially since there were 6 of them.

They were very organized and timely. The woman I spoke with was so personable, both on the phone and in person. They made me feel comfortable and the environment seemed like a fun place to work. Everyone I met was so welcoming and each employee seemed to really enjoy her work.

Interviewed Apr 2008 (took a day)
You first have to turn in the application and then you wait until you receive a phone call or email from the director who then schedules an interview. The group interview engages you unlike normal interviews to see if your personality fits their needs. There is a short period of time and then you either receive an email with job acceptance or declination.

Interviewed May 2009 (took 2 weeks)
I applied online and was contacted by phone 2 weeks later. I was set up for a group interview with other participants/potential employees. We were asked to camp games, songs, discipline procedures, respond to certain scenarios and to see how we worked as a team. Most if not all of us had a lot of fun. It felt more like a gathering. This interview though got everyone involved and as to how we were really going to be when it came to being a camp counselor. I was invited for an interview after that meeting over the phone. After a brief discussion about the responsibilities and requirements. I was given an offer and accepted.
